New problem when turning

When the car is stopped and i turn the steering i can here some clicking sound relatively loud, i can fell it through the floor

When i turn it in my garage, wich has a painted floor i canno't reproduce it, on asphalt i can reproduce it very easily.

When the car is rolling i canno't make this sound

What could it be?

, it sounds like a gear that have a missing tooth.

could it be dangerous ? because i have to travel this week end and no dealer is open.

I did more experiment it depends of the position of the wheel

If i try to reproduce the noise and it's not happen, i just go forward for few inches and try again, i do this untill i can hear it

I think it's like a bearing in the wheel

I don't know the english name, but they have to replace the mecanism (the gearing) that make the wheels turns betwween the steering and the wheels. I don't know if it's clear

A new thing that have to be changed again on my TL.

One day i will have only new spare parts on It.

For the french audience, La crémaillère!

For English speaking folks, Rack & Pinion!

Well it could be a bad axle. Axles sometimes referred to as half shafts can make a clicking noise when they are about to break. Check the CV boots to see if there are any tears/rips in it as well.

I just took my car in today to have the steering rack replaced. Whenever I drove slowly you could hear this clunking noise. I thought it was the suspension but turned out to be the steering rack!

They ordered the parts today and will work on it tomorrow.
