Wsup my Aziner's

My buddy and I tackled the alternator since it was going bad on me. While we were at it we changed out the serpentine belt as well. Everything went back as normal, but after cranking the car we noticed a loud whine. While turning the steering wheel the whine gets worse from left to right. We noticed a lot of PS fluid coming back out the reservoir with air bubbles. Like a lot never seen that before. So my question by changing out the serpentine caused any issue with the PS pump? or is it coincidence that the pump is going out after my alternator fix?? Its one thing after another.

 

I have heard that changing the belt when your pump is on the way out will make it do that. I had the whine and bubbles and I rebuilt my pump and I still get a smaller whine/moan sound when turning the wheel but no more bubbles. I dunno, these cars are full of power steering issues. You could try to rebuild the ps pump, it cost me less than $40 and about 2 or so hours of my time... You could also try to change the o ring on the powe steering hose connecting the reservoir to the pump (suction hose), its less than $2 and for some that solved the issue

 

Yea, I was hoping that wasn't the issue, but looks like I have to take that route. Thanks for the info... I did check the O-Ring to see if that was the issue but its still looks new. I bought that back last year. This sucks.. Did your PS overflow a lot? Mine looks like it dumped most of it out.

 

Was color was the O-ring?

Mine never did overflow, just bubbles in it and the whine/moan sound, really noticeable at idle/standstill while turning the wheel. It still does the whine under acceleration and moan while at idle, but now since the rebuild there's no more bubbles so I dunno what the problem is. I'm just going to leave my ps alone...

 

Replace the inlet oring on the pump first and let the fluid settle before starting the car again. I've had a lot of those orings go bad before right after tbelt/serp belt replacement. Usually fixes it.

 

I checked the O-ring right away, it wasnt the issue. No cracks are seen on it. So Idk what the hell it is. Does our PS pump have a filter or is the resevoir the filter?

 

I replaced my ps tank as well thinking it would help, and did not see a filter in neither the old one or the new one...

 

I am pretty certain there is a filter in the bottom of the reservior, but it is just a white/clear plastic screen, so its difficult to see. On the car, hold a bright LED pen-light under the bottom of the reservoir, pointed UP.

If the fluid is not too dark, you should be able to see all the way to the bottom, with no obvious *stuff* in the bottom of the tank. On my own RDX tank, I can actually see the printed code on the bottom of the tank, from the top opening, through the fluid - but my fluid is pretty clear, and I use one of those 250-lumins LED lights.

 

Thanks for the suggestion, but on our TL's we have dark grey colored reservoirs. So I wouldnt be able to see anyhting.

 

i heard that you need genuine honda power steering fluid and you can use any others or it will bubble and kick back.
