Navigation Buttons

Hey guys – a few buttons (Setup/Info button and two Defrost Buttons) are no longer lit up on my Type S. Is that an easy fix?

No its not easy unless you are comfortable taking out your navigation screen, which involves taking out: glove box door, glovebox, panel to the left of the glovebox, (2) under steering wheel panels, panel to the right of the driver foot well, (2) silver trim pieces, center console, shifter area trim, upper vents and display, and finally the navigation unit and the unplugging of it's wire harness.

I've done it and plan to never to do it again. If you're replacing those few buttons, make sure they're all replaced so you won't need to replace them anytime soon again.

OK, I am comfortable with that, but only up to the point of pulling the NAV unit out. Then what? Does the faceplate come off, and are they simply LED bulbs back there? Any soldering needed?

The whole unit comes out. It's pretty large and hefty. The bulbs come out via just a twist of a screw driver. Here- my post from my progress thread from when I changed them out. I can link you to part numbers if you need to order the bulbs.

Started at 5 and finished at 9. I know why they charge an arm and a leg to do this at the dealer now. Time consuming. Not too bad though.

All in working order again. Taken on my iPhone 4...not the best.

No problem. Here's the page to order them from. I made sure these are the ones for the Type-S. http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

Defroster buttons:
009 39057-SEP-A61 BULB (8V 120MA)

Setup/Info button:
006 39055-SEP-A71 BULB (8V 60MA)

Just order all the bulbs that go around the navi screen though, honestly.

I kept looking under the navigation shredout on the parts list, not the Center Module. Nice!

btw, you can save yourself quite a few bucks if you buy the bulbs from radioshack.
here is the part: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103780

just unwrap the wire connections from the base and take off the colored cover and swap out the bulb.

WHAT THE FUCK.

Dude, you know you can remove the nav unit in UNDER 15 minutes and only need to loosen about 8 screws, the side garnishes, and the upper vents, right?

My emphasis was not on the way he tackled the issue but rather on the verbiage I deliberately omitted in my original quotation.

Having said that my apologies if my reply seemed disrespectful and thanks to both of you we now have 2 ways to undertake the issue.

Do explain...I'm curious. I had to remove the center console regardless to get to the seat heat switch bulbs that had to be replaced. And the under steering wheel panel for the VSA bulb.

Guess you'd be the person to ask about taking the interior of the TL apart.

OK, so, wanna shave some time off this 'beast'? EASY!

1) Remove the two long running silver garnishes
2) Remove the 3 or 4 screws connecting the rear section of the center console to the midsection
3) Remove the two screws in the console storage area, pull back

SEAT HEATERS
- Using a stubby phillips head, unscrew the 2 screws for the switches and remove

NAV
- Using a long-blade flathead, pry the lower clip to the side interior panel out and BELOW the clip point in the shifter bezel. Repeat for the other clips
- Pull out the center vents
- Unscrew the shifter bezel from the radio, remove the nav/radio screws
- Pull up and out!

DONE

I can see your line of thought in how you did it...and TBH, you did it the safest way possible! With this method there is the slight chance of bending/breaking a clip IF you're not careful. Otherwise, you'll save TONS of time!!! At this point in time I have have a nav/radio out in well under 15 minutes.

Hope this help!

EDIT: We're SOL for the VSA, gotta take the long route on that one!

Thanks for the instructions. I'll remember for next time I need to take the navi out. When I did it, it was my first time and I didn't want to break anything. So I just followed the written procedure.

None of this stuff is really hard, just have to follow instructions well.
