Is my transmission on it's way out?

My 06 TL has 176,000 miles on the original transmission. Recently on on the highway going up a high grade with strong winds I lost nearly all power and barely made it up the hill with the tachometer climbing to 6-7 rpm. Fortunately I was able to pull into a rest area, waited a few minutes, and continued home. I went to the dealership and he said there is really nothing he could check to see what caused it. He said it sounds like the trans was slipping. The fluid level was a little low but that was it. I really don't know what to do at this point. I don't want to go through that scary experience again. All help is greatly appreciated.

No CEL's, no other dash lights? I'd do what everyone does here...swap out the tranny fluid, and install new 3rd and 4th gear switches- no guarantee, but it might help and if it does, you should be good to go for a bit.

did u feel/hear the trans physically downshift? if so, then it sounds more like a torque converter failure...

I don't think so. It just lost nearly all it's power. It barely had any movement. I felt lucky to have had any power at all to get up the hill. Really scary
