Is my car normal or slipping?
I just read another thread which was describing slipping transmission but i dont exactly know how that feels and looks like. So my question is if my car is slipping or just normal characteristic of the car. I have 2007 TL-S and before it changes to 3rd gear it would bump the rpm up by another maybe 300-500rpms. I can see it on the gauge and feels jerky at times.
I found a way of avoiding it by letting of the gas real quick just right when i feel like its going to shift already then it would shift fine. no codes or anything. I will bring it in before the week ends but would like to hear some inputs on what it is. the car has 60k and the fluid was changed at 50k with stock switches. oil serviced via mid and stock filter.

that's normal for sure. it's essentially lagging (imagine getting on the car WOT, and then shifting with your triptronic a little prior to redline. from the time you manually shift your car and your car actually shifting...this is lag that I'm referring to) a slipping clip is extremely noticeable. you wouldn't be able to really start your car up (acceleration). get on it, and you'll see your rpms revving freely, and then catching (trying to at least); transmission speed +engine speed not retained because transmission is slipping.
does that help?

it does help, and consistent to what ive been watching in youtube videos where the cars hesitates from moving. but i feel like what im feeling is a beginning of a slip as its not over revving that high, if that makes sense. why does it only happen from 2nd to 3rd only and does it 85% of the time? is there a way to avoid this?

im pretty sure your car is having the slipping transmission. sounds EXACTLY like my symptoms but not as bad....yet. and just so happens thats its also 2-3 shift like everyone else is getting. i noticed you're in corona, i am located in riverside on weekdays, if you are ever around the area i can ride in your car for just a minute and i can confirm for you

2-3 seems to have to hold the most amount of tq/hp in the TL line; maybe why they're seeing the most problems. when my transmission went out, 2nd to 3rd shifts weren't hesitated, but more rough and almost forced. you still under warranty? if you're a good customer of your local dealership, you could always ask them to goodwill it?

Do a 1x3 transmission fluid change and see if it helps. If so, then it was/is slipping for sure.
Do it ASAP - a slip or two can do months and months worth of wear to a clutchpack.
Any kind of fluid will work for this test - just buy cheap old Dex Merc III. If it does help, then formulate a plan for a more extensive change over the next few weeks.

Have you inspected the fluid? What fluid did you use? If you used the Z1 and the transmission is starting to go even a little bit, then the base can be quickly ruined with the extra heat. If you used the Z1, then get a better fluid in there for a test. It is like $20 and could buy you months or years if you are starting to get wear.
The switches might be a good place to go next. The dealer will not be able to tell if they are bad, or not, just if they are operating in range.
At the dealer, you will get:
1). Needs new tranny - complete unit. We have no idea what is wrong.
2). It is fine.
Do you have a warranty?

I didnt get the extended warranty so i dont have warranty. Isnt transmission part of the powertrain warranty?
I replaced the fluid with racing atf. You're right I should look at the fluid. Thanks.

I looked at the fluid today and it looks like i just poured it in yesterday. It smells good and still pink. I replaced it at 50,000 miles and i now have i think 61000 miles.
I dont really know if i had the slipping before or not. The reason i noticed it because I can hear the revs better now after doing the dynomax resonator. If i dont allow the rpm to go above 3000 it will shift smoothly. If i go above 3k it will rev or bump it another 2-300 rpm's before it shifts to 3rd. All of this with constant pressure to the gas pedal.

your slippping issue is only beginning. right now it will only slip in midrange especially around 3k rpm. its going to get worse. however shifts past 5k will never slip because vtec is engaged and the shift will be forced. i was in your shoes a couple weeks ago....now im slipping up to 800rpm on the 2-3 and have developed a ~200 rpm slip on the 3-4 shift.

I'd personally wait for the problem to get worse before bringing it in to Acura for diagnostic. If the problem only happens occasionally, they could say the car is fine and will eat up the diagnostic fee.

correct. your transmission is covered under powertrain warranty which will expire at 73,500 miles.

I'd like to be pro active about stuff like this to prevent a costlier repair and damage to the transmission.
