I have a 2008 TL 3.2 base model that I’m not too familiar with that went completely dead the other day out of nowhere( key fob won’t unlock, no lights on, no crank when turned over). I plugged in my portable jump starter and immediately get power in the car on the dash and turns over first try but dies shortly after. I’ve replaced the battery which has full voltage, brand new alternator, and got new battery connectors that were bad from corrosion. Any help or fixes are greatly appreciated thank you!
I just replaced the top terminal last night and still get full voltage out of the battery but it’s still completely dead. I connected a starter pack to it immediately after installing the new battery too mount for the negative and I got all power back and it started up and ran by itself with no issues even after I took the battery pack off. Then once I turned the car off and tried to start it again there was no power and no crank
If car works with jump starter but doesn't with battery, and battery is brand new and charged, then somehow juice from the battery doesn't flow to the car. Where exactly you connect the jump pack?
You did take those things off the new battery right?
Yeah of course haha. I connected my portable charger directly on the terminals and show full voltage but have no power. When the battery jumper is on the terminals I get all power back inside and out of the vehicle and the key fob works and the car starts right up. I even took the battery charger off while the car was running and it stays running with no problems. But when I turn it off and try to start it back up all power is lost again.
That doesn't make sense. If battery is connected and you have no power in the car, and you put jump pack directly onto those battery terminals and have power, then only conclusion is that either battery is actually dead or there is no connection between battery and car terminals. No other way. You must be missing something simple. Everything clean and tight?
Yeah man I’m at a loss for words it’s so weird to me. I’ve always kept the car up and never had a problem in the 7 years I’ve had the car. Just got a brand new battery last month and at the same file replaced the alternator cause it was going bad. Car ran great for a month or so then I went to go to work the other day and bam, completely dead with no power in or around the car. Battery read full voltage and has a new negative battery terminal. I’m going to replace the negative today and see if maybe that’s bad with no ground
So I just cut past all the corrosion on my negative battery cable and put a new top mount on it and put a new negative cable on it to make sure it wasn’t the cables. When I put the new negative top post on it I jumped it and it started but when I turned it off it died. Then I put a new negative terminal on it and I got nothing and wouldn’t jump at all or give off any power. I put the old negative back on and still nothing and won’t jump or give off any power when hooked up to a portable jump. This is becoming so frustrating 🤬
Sorry I cut down on the positive and put a new terminal and put a new negative on it and it wouldn’t even start with a jump or give off any sign of power
Had something like this happen to my 08 TL also. It wound up being a wire that was arcing & not making a complete connection. My friend just happened to be standing in the right place and saw the spark. Replaced the + cable and all has been good since
OP - Have you looked at posts #2, #10 and #13 above?
Internal corrosion has been known to happen on the + battery cable - meaning you can't see it. Some folks have described a crunchy feeling when squeezing along the cable length as is internal disintegration. You should also make sure you have a good solid ground as well. Corrosion can happen on either end of the battery cables, not just at the battery terminals. You may have done and checked all of this but haven't responded to the suggestions. $0.02
Have you checked the + battery cable itself? At this age, it's likely corroded on the inside where you can't see it.
.
At this point I’m going to get a voltmeter after work tomoro and start testing the battery, cables, and starter to see where the power is being lost because I believe you are correct that the negative battery cable is toast. Even with a new top mount on the cable and the corrosion brushed off there is still no power going into the car unless it’s got the battery pack connected to the terminals. Thanks guys for all the suggestions I’ll let you know tomoro what I find out.
On the + side of the battery, it splits into 2 cables. Under the sleeve of each splice there's a connection that was loose & had some corrosion on mine.

yeah when I first noticed my positive had a lot of corrosion on it I cut it down past the corrosion and put a new top mount on it but the wires were pretty green so I think the whole cable is trash so I just ordered a OEM one from the Acura warehouse so hopefully that does the trick! Thanks dude!
