Exclamation Loud Grind Sound For Split Second?

Just curious to know if anyone know what this is. So my 06 TL has been sitting in the driveway for some time now for these past couple of weeks. I go in to start it now and then i hear a loud grind sound about 2 to 3 seconds after I start the car.
It lasts for a split second after I start the car and then cuts out. I switch of the engine and restart the car to check again and then hear nothing. The next day when the engine is started again I hear this loud grind sound again. It does this now every time i start the car after a considerable night of rest (starting from cold). Now i notice that when i switch the ignition to acc i see both the red dot beside the park light in my dash and the green light beside my M-D drive in the dash also. I left my tank almost empty on a cold night before all this started to happen and I am starting to wonder whether condensation took place in my tank and water got into the engine.

Does anyone have any possibilities as to whats the problem or any ideas to whats going on?

Your perceptions or any knowledge or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks for listening.

Well, IDK about the noise. My mom's Navigator does that once in a while (but she lives in FL so it's not weather-related) and my TLs never done it. Just FYI, the Red "P" Light and Green "D" Light are supposed to come on at ACC. Good luck with the noise!

My guess...
Your starter isn't letting go of the flywheel.

If it's doing it persistently, it won't be doing it much longer.

ditto.

The ABS check is done when driving, not when sitting still.

Is it the same grinding noise like when you start a car that already has it's engine on?

I have a similar problem, but only when temp are around -15 to -20 degrees celcius and only when the car has been sitting overnight. The initial start i hear that sound too...After that its ok

No its a deeper sound that almost similar to when your gears are not properly engaged. Note however that my car is an AT and it happens just after i start the car, no movements involved.

I can tell that your having the same exact problem, it just started since these cold weeks during the winter and also when it has sat overnight. Mine is ok too after words. I'm taking it to the dealer next wednsday to get my bumper fixed because of the haters out there (very minor though), so when I take it in i'm gonna ask them to check it out. I'll definately let you know what the results are. I'm praying its nothing.

Hopefully i get an MDX or RL loaner.

is that a bad thing or just something that will go away?

Took my car to the dealer last week and got it back.
To my prediction of what a typical dealer says, the result was in these words "nothing is wrong".

However, since the weather has been warm this grind sound is now gone.
I did some research and it possibly could be the A/C compressor since i did not
run it at leat once a month as recommended during the winter in the manual.
Just my speculation, but they ran the tests and said nothing was found to be wrong in relation to the problem.

Just thankful its nothing and wanted to let y'all know..

I have that noise also on startup, not every time, just occasionally. It might be the ABS doing a self check, my previous Olds would emit a sharp hum on startup, too, and I was told it was the ABS. The wierd thing is it doesn't do it everyday.

My first thought was that it was the AC recirc vent trying to close and the motor was slipping (does it use a motor, or just vacuum?) BTW, I use the AC every day in south Texas, even during the so-called winter.

It's also not the flywheel grinding, I know what that sounds like, this is more like little plastic gears slipping, or a really fast hydraulic hum.
