Knock Sensor+Wire Harness
Got my TL diagnost some time back... and turns out that my knock sensor has gone bad and suposedly part of the wire harness is missing.
Honda service techs speculate it being due to harsh winter conditions. 0.o
They want 550+ for the job [with parts]. Tax not included.
They say the parts cost half of the price quote... I don't believe it is.
Is there anywhere that I can get a new/used [but working] knock sensor and knock-sensor-wire harness??
I can have a local mech. do the job for much less.. if not free.

I speculate this (see link below) is what happened to your wiring

I was baffled when they mentioned about the weather being the cause of my problem...
But the CEL did come on during a half hour ride home [that involved harsh hail and wind].
I've lived in Montreal, where winters are insanely rough...
Kept the TL garaged during most winters last year [in kitchener ontario, where it wasn't as crazy]...
All was fine [and it still is]. It's just the CEL is there---and like I stated came on during some harsh hail. Bad timing for the CEL to show up???
Going to continue to read the thread. Thanks.

I suppose it was all just bad timing then... which baffles me as I've hit VTEC a few times yet randomly one day home the CEL decides to go on. (Now, if I whipe the CEL it will come back on if my RPMs hit 4000-45000).

Weather causing wiring to go bad. If so, this would be the first time that problem has ever been posted on our 3G Forum.

I agree with everyone and the statements about the mice. We see it at work too from time to time I would like to make a suggestion though. Try replacing just the harness first. If you know what you are doing, it CAN be done in under 1/2 hour (45 mins max), with only a few parts needing removal. It's very very rare for the actual knock sensor to go bad. And Honda was nice enough to make that small section of knock sensor harness replaceable. It's not even 6" in length. On a positive note, the new ones comes with "anti rodent" insulation/wrapping lol. It even shows "no mice" symbols on it
So my is try that first, to save yourself quite a bit of time and money.

The sensor and wire would cost < $50 from even a local dealer. Online dealer orders are cheaper than that. I'm not sure about changing the wire in 1/2 hour, but I may give it a try. I have both a sensor and wire here at home since I've been having the hesitation problems described in another thread.

My suggested time of 30-45 mins max was again reflecting a technician's time, who has done this before. Basically if you remove just the intake manifold (10 mins at most for removal, and again 10 mins at most for install), you can access the harness between the runners, so nothing else needs removed. I know this because I've done it before on a few cars thus far. It's just a matter of having the right tools and knowing what you're doing Just trying to save you some time and headache.
