Intermittent Acceleration Problem

Ok, well im done with just dealing with this problem.

When acceleration from a roll or stop the car will lurch or feel jumpy, i dont know how else to explain it. Feels almost like a missfire. Some days it makes it unbearable to drive, other days it drives absolutely perfectly.

Does not have to do with engine temps, sometimes its right after i start, other times it has been doing it after a 2 hour drive.

-No codes
-Plugs are fine
-90k miles
-6mt
-2004

Are there any common things like this that have a nice easy fix, or do i have to start diagnosing further, which i just dont have time for.

i believe this is the infamous "surge" on 6mt's.

i dont have a surge.
but a lot of people have tried tracing it but with no luck.

the other thing that comes to mind is if the previous owner(assuming you bought used since you joined '11.) mis-shifted and caused an over rev. damaging the valves.

Well i need to find that out asap because i have a week left on my Warranty... I found the threads on the 6mt surge, but i just dont understand why mine is intermittent then.

Is there a common valve that goes with an over rev? Or do i need to leak-down all of them?

oh also, read up on the APP sensor!
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/app-sensor-replacement-what-do-before-doing-830989/

I think the bent valve is a worst case scenario.
but you would have to get a compression test and leak down on all.

Yeah, that sensor looks like a good fix, but the dealer said they did not notice it when they drove so they refuse to replace anything (no code). So now im stuck throwing money at this thing less than a month after getting it, and hoping that fixes it. I bought this car because i was hoping it would be low maintenance.

I can do the leakdown myself, its just a giant PITA on this car.

Hey I remember having a problem like this. My 08 Type S 6mt had a weird surging issue during normal acceleration. The problem was felt more so in hotter outside temps, was sort of intermittent, but for the most part always had some sort of unsmooth acceleration.

I tried EVERYTHING...coils, plugs, app sensor, egr valve, map sensor, IAT sensor, 02 sensors, knock sensor, different fuels including 100 octane race fuel, and probably a lot of other things that i forgot to mention. Nothing had any effect on the surging. I had the car at two seperate dealerships 4 times with no luck they couldnt find anything. Finally got annoyed enough and sold the car a couple months later and 8000 miles later for the same price I paid for it. I bought a different Type S...problem solved :-) im happy now!

Ha, well with the problems ive had so far, im honestly considering selling it already. I just doubt i would find another 6mt TL in this shape for the price i paid.

I would have to go back to what i know, and get an LS2 V, i can diagnose LS motors in my sleep.

I say go for it the good thing here is the problem isnt bad enough to where you cant sell the car. Its something that only I really noticed because I drive it everyday and plus im super picky. And even Acura said its working to spec.
If you really like the TL just make sure you test drive the car and if it doesnt surge then your fine. I purchased basically the same car I had before in as good condition for a great price. Im happy as can be.

Hey speaking of LS motors im no stranger to those :-) Lets see, I have owned the following: LT1 (97 Z28 Camaro), LS1 (99 C5 hardtop), LS6 (03 Z06), LS2 (05 C6 Z51 6spd), and last but not least the mighty 427 LS7 (06 Z06 that you see in my avatar).

Let us know what you decide.

Yeah the sad part is, it drove perfectly the first couple days i owned it, then it decided to do this. Now today is the first day since that it is driving perfectly again. Some days it is to the point where id rather drive my Jeep. At first i thought i was just too used the the really smooth start and acceleration of an mn16 GM 6speed, and the start assist of my GTO.

Oh yes, dont even get me started on the cars ive had the pleasure of owning with a GM v8.

99 Firebird (100 shot)
96 Trans Am (Heads/Cam/Forged/150 shot)
98 Z28 (150 Shot/Bolt-ons)
98 Trans Am (Cam/125 shot)
06 GTO (Procharged)

This is the first time its only taken me less than a month to want a new car. Ive had a couple Hondas and loved to daily them, but so far Acura has disappointed me. This was supposed to be my daily that i loved to drive for hours, and not have to worry about something going wrong.

Sorry, i know i really shouldn't rant like this on here.

That looks like a fun list of cars. Do you still own any of them?

The 98 Trans Am got sold to my parents, so i get to drive and maintain it when ever i go to their place. I plan on buying another LS F-Body and having a fun turbo project.
