2004 TL Stalling When Stopped
My TL has been stalling when stopped. It is an intermittent problem, happens about every other week. Does it a few times, then goes away.
I hear some clicking before it happens. It also surges forward. Its can be a bit of a jolt. I've been lucky to have my foot firmly on brake.
There is some knocking that goes with it. I have read on here similar problems that might point to the knock sensor.
It does NOT throw a code. I've taken it in, but because it won't do it for my mechanic, its been tough for them to diagnose. A lot of what I've read on here involves trying stuff.
Any ideas as to what this might be? How would you diagnose it? Do you just start replacing things until it goes away.
FYI: My 2004 TL - 310,000 miles and counting. Engine runs like the day I got it. Rebuilt transmission from Glen Burnie Transmissions made it better then new.

what is the car idling at if you turn it on and let it idle with all the accessories off? Have you had any electrical issues? Also how old is the battery?

I had a similar problem in my truck. I would suggest cleaning your throttle body really well with some throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush. Be prepared for it to rev really high after since the TB cleaner will act like starter fluid/carb spray.
Costs about 3 bucks to try and is something you can do without a mechanic.
