Ignition Coil Melted - Questions

Hey, I know there are 1,000 threads on this topic but they are all very old. I actually revived one the other day. I do have some questions about the coil melting and didn't think anybody would answer me there. I have actually read through nearly every thread I can find to maybe look for these answers and have not found them anywhere.

1. My ignition coil melted when there was no A/C running. I did have the heat on since I am in NYC and it's cold. Would that cause an issue with the PCM?
2. I checked my door and sunroof for leaks and there don't seem to be any. I have no gotten to the A/C yet, nor has any part of my car been damp or moist from rain water. Where else should i check for water?
3. How long after the replacement coil and plug would the plug go bad again if the PCM is fried?
4. When I got the melted coil, i smelled burning right when I started the car but the CE light didn't come on til I was 30 minutes into my drive, does that mean maybe my coil was just loose?
5. I can't get to my PCM (not the best with cars) if my coil doesn't burn out again that means it was just a loose coil?

Please can somebody help me answer these questions so I can put myself at ease if possible.

thanks!

If it is only one coil, don't sweat it, just replace it; coils fail from time to time; fact of life.

Only reason I'm sweating it, is because it was melted and hoping that it wasn't my PCM lol

Make certain that the spark plug wasn't loose in the head.

Well I replaced it because the coil was burned out as well. Cleaned the cylinder and plugged in the new coil.

Exactly. I had a plug back itself out just enough to fry a coil.

Here's to hoping nothing leaked into the PCM.

I am pretty sure cylinder 5 is the one known for the spark plug coming loose on these engines, which can/will cause the coil to melt and fail. I try to check the torque on my plugs 1-2 times a year, since its fairly easy and doesn't take very long.

How is a fried PCM saving money

Pretty sure a coil + spark plug is way cheaper than any PCM's I've seen

Yeah well hoping that if my PCM is done, I rather figure that out now before it caused more problems. Thus in the long run saving money.

What the rest of us are trying to figure out is, why the heck you would jump to the conclusion your PCM was done? So far at least, you have provided us with exactly zero symptomatology which would point to the PCM. Like I said, you are way over thinking things. Replace the coil and be happy.

I'm thinking the worst because of the 17 other threads I read on this issue and half of them say water in the PCM 😂

I guess I've been asleep at the wheel, I've been around here for just over two years and never seen one of those "17 other threads".

Wait you haven't seen the melted coil water in PCM threads? Also I only joined Jun 2018 but I've been here since at least 2015 when I got my first 05 Acura TL which I replaced with my current 08 Type S. I have been reading. That's why I had so many questions, because these aren't usually answered in those older threads.

I guess that's why I started this thread. I appreciate the help though, hopefully you are right and nothing else. For now I am living with changing the coil and spark trust me I hope its only that and I can keep my money for other things in life.
