Melted Ignition Coil

New to group so be gentle. 05 TL, ~52K miles, bought certified used 1.5 years ago, bought extended warranty through 2012.

Car started to sputter after 1.5 hour trip, engine light came on, pulled over. Stopped car, turned off A/C, drove another 5 miles to destination with no engine light. Started car about 6 hours later and made it about 200 yards and car just died, had all warning lights pop up, but was like someone turned car off. Put car in park and was able to start it fine, but it was sputtering, engine light came on within about 1 minute of idling. Towed to dealer where I bought it and here is diagnosis so far.

Melted ignition coil (#1 or #4, service mgr was not sure which one), burned out O2 censors (front and rear? Primary and secondary?), main transmission control unit shot.

They are not sure of root cause. Mentioned they were looking to see if water could have been cause. No flood damage evident when I bought the car or in the carfax. Local car serviced at that dealer as well.

Wondering if there are other items I should expect to be damaged once they replace the transmission control unit?

Any idea of possible causes of this besides water?

Advice on keeping or selling car once all this is fixed?

Thanks!

OK I don't reply much on the board but I just ran into the same situation. Above your ECU (computer) which sits behind your radio is your AC condensor vent. Off this on the passenger side is a drain hose that dumps out through the floor board. This hose sometimes gets clogged. When this happens water fills the condensor vent and drips down onto your ECU. When this shorts out it can cause your coil packs to melt down. Check your hose to be sure it's not clogged by disconnecting it at the vent and bowing though it. Good luck

This just happened to me. I'm assuming the new ECU will need to be reflashed.
