I dropped a coin inside my AT shifter

So I had a bunch of change in my cup holder and I grabbed a handful while driving to pick out money for an upcoming toll. A dime fell out of my hand and wound up inside the sport shifter section of my AT shifter inset. While I continued driving I tried to fish it out using a pen tip, hoping to knock it up sideways so I could grab it. Well that's not what happened and it wound up going under the minus sign area. I tried shifting into neutral to move the ribbed black plastic thinking it would reappear...but nope, it's gone.

I looked at the service manual and it looks like I can't get the silver cover off w/o removing the entire center console. It's not worth me doing that for 10 cents. But is there anything I need to worry about since there is now a loose piece of metal somewhere down there in the center console. Anything to worry about?

see image below (blue is my representation of the coin)...and note that I already removed the outer piece in this pic.

better get it out it could cause ur tranny to fail

jk ... shouldnt be a problem, it may get lodged in a place that will not allow u to move the gear selector, but it shouldnt cause any mechanical damage. obviously if it doesnt allow u to shift the selector u will have to tear the whole thing open to get it out

do you have enough room to stick a magnet? (looks like a radio antenna with a magnet on the end)

coins aren't magnetic...

I'd be more concerned about rattles in that region more than the 10 cents! It's not very hard to take out the center console and clean up that whole area. Plus you can grab and junk that fell between the seat and console.

I have a question for the OP, what exactly do you think could logically happen to your car by having a dime in your center console. I mean really??

I'd be somewhat concerned with rattling (likely going to happen) or the shifter getting jammed, as someone else mentioned.

OP have you tried to wedge something between where it got stuck to maybe push it out?

IIRC, you can remove the faux-carbon surround to make room for the silver part to lift up.

yeah it's not there anymore...either slid down the rest of the "ridged plastic" track, or in floating around inside somewhere.

I removed the carbon fiber thing and the "silver part" doesn't come up without breaking it or taking apart the center console (and unbolting it).
