Power Steering Rack : What the heck?

I am mad! 81K miles on my 2006 TL. The PS hose recall was checked and all was good 50K miles ago.

The last 6 months having problems with steering noise after going long distances. Making turns sounds like a grinding noise. And it only occurs when the moon is lined up with Mars! I initially took it to our local Acura dealership and was told all checked out fine. No leaks, no nothing. They told me to bring it back when the noise occurs again. Today was the day I took it back to the dealership as the grinding noise started once again.

I was told the PS Rack needs to be replaced because fluid is leaking into the wheel cylinders. $1100 to replace the PS rack and the cylinders in the wheels.

Does any of this make sense and am I getting hosed??? What should I do?

^^^Yeah, could indeed be a bad O-ring. The dealer is supposed to put the new, redesigned O-ring in during the PS Hose safety recall TSB, but we found many times that didn't happen.

It is a fact that our PS racks don't have a great track record. It still could be that, but check the O-ring first. The dealer would love to charge you $1100 for a 5o cent part!!
