How is your reliability BEFORE 100k?

Hey Everyone...

Still in my 08 TL... almost a year in. Got her with 50k now we are just over 61k.

I am a little disappointed in the quality of the vehicle so far. When everything is working she is a dream! Otherwise... thank goodness for my 3 year / 54,000 miles of additional warranty I paid for. It has ALREADY paid for itself in 10 months.

What I have had replaced:

54k - Front Motor Mount, Side, and Rear/Trans Mount - FAC WARR
55k - Timing Belt Tensioner - Noisy at idle - FAC WARR
55k - HFL Module, front and rear valve cover gaskets, valve adjustment - Extended Svc Cont
58k - Rear pass door lock actuator, hood struts x2, power steering rack, power steering fluid tank, both outside mirror actuators - Extended Svc Contract
61k - Inner axle seal leaking, oil pump leaking + replacing timing belt due to age and its coming out for the oil pump reseal anyways. - Extended Service Contract

All this right here is almost $4,000 in repairs at retail prices... in 10k miles. On top of that, my transmission has felt weak since the beginning and I doubt it will make it to 100k. I bought this car after seeing my dad's 05 TL last 150k with axles and motor mounts being the extent of out of pocket expenses. All my issues seem common based on my searches, but has anyone seen it all come at once like I have?

I don't plan to keep this car past 2 more years or 100k... the idea of owning it out of warranty seems very uncertain financially.

What do you think? Is mine a case of bad luck? Normal?

Some of those sound like some of the issues that others here on the site have had. I would say it is strange to have all those issues come up at the same time. However, what kind of condition was it in when you got it? I realize 50K is not a lot of miles but I have seen some people beat the crap out of their cars in not a lot of miles.

By the way I have an 07, I got it with 44K and now have 64k and havent had any issues other then the Nav unit issue.

Each car will be different and some repairs will be due to how the car is teated, or mistreated, but our '04 with 87k miles I've needed to replace:
Driver's seat belt receiver (84k)
Driver's side door actuator (86k)
That's it, except for normal wear items, brakes, rotors, tires, filters, wiper blades, sepentine belt.

2005 purchased in summer 2008 with 44k miles, now with 141k miles.
- passenger door lock actuator (CPO warranty or maybe goodwill?)
- driver's power seat drive cable loose - rattled badly when moving seat (CPO warranty or maybe goodwill?)
- both side mirrors cleaned/lubed (goodwill)
- Side Engine Mount
- Hood Struts
- HVAC Blower Transistor
- Rearview Mirror
- Battery Cable (battery case was cracked)
- APP Sensor

For about 100k miles of ownership, I have zero complaints with the reliability of my TL.

Thanks for he input.

The only thing I will say could be my fault is that I am very picky and sensitive to anything that isn't 100%. Also I have easy access to a lift at work and most of the mechanical issues got fixed right as they were starting to show signs of failure. (I.e - p/s rack wasn't shot but I could see fluid in the bellows so it warranted replacing it, door lock still worked, but was making the whining sound they make before they go out. I haven't officially let anything but the HFL and hood struts go all the way out.

The car was one owner dealer maintained at the same dealer they bought it from. It seemed well cared for. They had just put new Continental Extreme Contact tires on when they traded it in.

In general I feel like my TL is fragile. But I'll keep taking good care of her and see if she turns around.

I bought my 06 with about 60,000 and it now has 85,000. I have mainly only had to do regular maintenance and some preventative stuff like changing the trans fluid and 3rd and 4th gear switches and rear calipers and brake hoses because the rear brakes kept locking up on me. Car has been great for me so far, plan on keeping it for a long time.

At 104,200 miles, my '04 manual TL has had to have the inside rear view mirror changed (by me) because it began to fail several years ago. That's it other than routine maintenance and the timing belt with all of the attendant replacements done two years ago this month.

I've got about 90k on the clock, 55k of which are mine. Low tone horn went out, valve adjustment for P0171, TSB for EVAP Purge Valve, TSB for Clutch M/C, rear main seal (warranty).

I think my axles are going - creaking sound in winter. And I think my engine mounts are going too - lots of engine flex.

I'm very satisfied with the reliability so far. And even if something does break, it's more than likely very easy to repair on my own and parts are relatively inexpensive.

Im at 105k on my 2004 mt, no issues to speak of yet, doing my timing belt service this weekend. I worked for a Lexus dealer and had a guy trade in his 04 mt tl with 400k on it.... We gave him 3k trade in for it a few years ago.

sounds like common items and DID not affect the reliability of your car at all.

remember, it's a machine.

171k miles right now on my 07. Steering Rack around 125k. Oil pump leak (very slow and have not had to replace) around 140k. Mirror actuators replace goodwill around 100k. So far that has been it.
