How replace molding by door handle.... HELP

I've done some research but have come up empty, other threads did not have
images to show problem so I'm hoping in doing so will get this problem solved.

I do know that the door panel has to be taken of.. correct? If so above is my current
progress. I've taken off 4 screws. I need to know if there are any others hidden that
need to be removed, if not do i now pop it off? Is there any difficulty putting
everything back together again or is it fairly simple? Any advice from similar
experiences would be greatly appreciated. I do have the replacement part with the
molding and the base. Just need access to unscrew old base and replace with new
part

What are you trying to do?

Just replace that peice that is missing in the first pic?

If so, just get a new one and pop it on. ~$10. There is actually a TSB for this and the dealer might do it gratis. No need to go fooling with the door panel or extra screws or whatever.

If you're talking about removing/shaving the door handles, that is something else entirerly.

Yes I'm trying to replace that piece in the 1st & 2nd pic, it fell off when i drove home from work. I did try to snap the molding piece on but the base part (ugly metal thing) won't grasp the molding correctly and does not stay on. The base needs to be replaced as well so thats why i'm asking about how to get into the door. thx

stop what you are doing, button everything back up....visit your local dealer and they should fix it for free...there is a tsb on this....otherwise, you can get a new one already painted and it will just pop on ....there is no need to unscrew anything from the inside of the car for the outer door handles....

The one on my 05 just fell off this weekend. Do I need the TSB to get them to replace it? If so where can I find it?

Welcome to the forums.

I just tested the bulletin and it opens for me.

You have to follow the instructions exactly as they are posted, including clearing your cache if you are using Firefox and probably some other sites.

My TL is missing all 4 door handle caps. Thanks for this informative post, now I'm going to go to the dealer and see if I'm able to get them free, or just pay the $12 each for them because little things like that drive me crazy.
