HELP! Stripped bolt and thread on Brembo Caliper
HELP! Stripped bolt and thread on Brembo Caliper
I was doing pads and rotors on my wifes 2007 TL Type S and the bottom bolt(19mm) came out damaging the thread from the Brembo caliper(bottom hole). I thought it just F'd up the bolt but as you can see the threading where the bolt goes in to the caliper is damaged and can't fit a new bolt in there. Anyone know what I can do in this situation or know any shops that can rethread the existing bolt hole?? I took off the caliper in the meantime. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Centric Parts (same company as Stoptech) makes re-manufactured calipers for the TL 6MT/Type-S. RockAuto.com sells them for $145 each + $125 core desposit (send your old ones back).
http://extranet.soleniuminc.com/Cent...05&m=58&mm=749
Current part numbers:
142.40084 Front Left
142.40083 Front Right
They also sell both pistons to rebuild yourself: 146.38054 & 146.42023
And a rebuild kit with seals & boots: 143.63023
The part number shown below isn't valid any longer (I think)

Definitely good to know, thanks man. If i knew about it a little sooner i would of went this route. I ended up getting it tapped and i believe the machine shop put a helicoil. From speaking with a acura service guy, he tells me they use aluminum bolts on cast iron calipers?? Is there any truth to this? I put a good amount of anti-seize and cleaned out the threads to make sure it went on smooth as possible on all 4 holes. From what i've searched, its a pretty common problem with Acura in general.
No that is not correct in any case. The bolts are always metric grade 10.9 steel (with a zinc coating). The calipers are typically cast steel (rotors are cast iron). Brembo calipers are aluminum.
The TimeSert made for the Brembos gets great reviews. I've used TimeSert to fix stripped spark plug holes and so far, every time I've used them they have worked out great. I believe this is the correct kit for the Brembo caliper repair:

I used the time seer kit when one of mine stripped out $100ish dollar kit and $150 to have all 4 bolts done on the calipers, but at least I know it won’t happen again. The kit replaces the aluminum threads with Steele ones
The TimeSert kit works great, I'd even encourage it as a preventative maintenance especially for northern climates.
I made a quick write-up of the install here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p.../#post15923116
