HELP!!! Check engine light flashing

Hi guy,

Last weekend I went to touging(Canyon driving) with my friend and I kept my gear at 2nd around 5k rpm for about 1 mile(I have a 04 5AT) and my check engine light is flashing, than I put it back to 4th than the light turn off about 10 sec and sometime when I down shift to the check engine light will flash too anyone here had this kind of problem b4?is the engine over heat so the ECU warning by flashing the check engine or is the tranny over heating? I used to have this problem when the engine Oil is old(20%-Lower) so I thought the engine oil needed to change it so cant push too hard but this time my Oil life is 70% and the light already flashing shall i take it back to the dealer and have their tech to check it out but I have AEM intake, outlaw spacer, grounding kit and UR pulley(just install it yesterday) am I still under warrently?my car is about 45K miles btw

Please help!!

Thanks

Ken,S

A flashing check engine light is an indicator of a misfire code. Ive explained in the past how to DIY for misfire codes.

Yea same hting happened to me, only once when i kept it in 2nd for a while too(06 TL 5AT). I tried to reproduce the the flashing light once more and had no luck so i just left it. My uncel has one of the cheaper OBDII and it can only read solid codes not the flashing ones. So instead of paying 70 bones to diagnose it the DIY code reading post would be great ...

Sounds like a situation where the cat may have gotten hot and sent a malfunction code thinking the engine was running rich

Make sure you know your radio security code, then disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and clean the terminals and reinstall.

Thats the old school way of clearing some codes and resetting the puter

DISCLAIMER Sometimes I have no idea what I am talking about

You can also go to a parts store that will grab codes or an independant shop.
Remember- codes are not diagnosis- only clues to the real problem

On my Maxima it said coolant temp sensor and O2 sensor- I knew from past experience that it was really the airflow meter- problem fixed!

That blinking will go away in about 100 miles or so...

If it doesn't you can take it to an Acura dealer to get the code checked... a blinking engine light doesn't always mean a misfire code was sent to the ECM memory

If the blinking goes away -- no permanent code was generated .. no worries... don't run that high in the power band in 2nd for that far of a distance... you wouldn't really do that in any car.. manual or sport shift auto..

I've had this happen many times.. the code will go away .. if it doesn't .. something is continually malfunctioning and you need to get the code checked/diagnosed.

i.e. .. to "reset" the ECM codes... remove just the negative terminal of the battery for about 5 minutes...

And whys that? i could see maybe a auto but not in a manual...i mean there are some tracks or mountain roads(Deals Gap), that if you drive hard you are going to leave it in 2nd...j/w

It could be a false alarm. My old vehicle did that, last for 1 month and then light came off. Never see it again. Reset battery not alway work. It work for awhile and then the light goes back on.
