Help! Car has no take-off from a stop.

My car has no take-off when i accelerate from a stop. The tires cant even chirp. When rolling it's ok and accelerates well, but it's the initial start thats a problem. This happens whether VSA is on or off. What can I do to remedy this problem. I don't have any tranny issues, I've done my plugs, and I'm about to do all the belts (would a UR crank pulley help?) I know there is no throttle cable which can be tightened, but is there anything I can do that will help. This is an 05 automatic TL with 110,000 miles. Thanx for any help.

Try resetting the ECU-- moderator csmeance has a post on the procedure (no, not as simple as disconnecting the battery, but close) in one of the transmission threads. The ECU and transmission are adaptive and learn the driver's driving style over time, so that may account for gradual initial acceleration.

Also, what wheels/tires is the TL on? The larger the wheel/tire combo, the slower the acceleration, i.e. 19"-22" wheels suck on that score.

110,000 miles is a bunch...i'm sure it's not as strong as when it had 10k miles.

It's not the mileage. This is a Honda engine. With 100k miles, that engine is just now broken-in well and should be making it's best power that it will ever make or had made in it's lifetime.

draztic1011,

Please help us to help you.

Did this issue just recently develop? How was the car perfroming before this issue?

Have you modded the car recently?

Have you recently got new tires?

Have you recently got new rims?

Was the car in the shop recently?

the tires not chirping doesn't really tell us a whole lot. That's very significant if your tires suck, but if you're running summer performance tires, it can take quite a bit to get them to lose grip. How much of an acceleration loss are we talking about here? Does it continue accelerating abnormally slow all the way up to 60, or does it start getting better as your speed increases? How hot has it been where you are?

I recently took off my heavy 20" inch rims and put my stocks back on. My stocks have falken tires with 95% tread left. I know this vehicle doesnt have great low end torque, but it used to get up and go pretty well. If i line up with my brother (01 CL Type-S), he shoots off the line and my car barely rolls. If I punch it while rolling however, like from 40 mph up, the car accelerates well. About a month ago, I did my spark plugs, I've done a transmission flush, and have been doing synthetic oil changes. The next service I'm going to do is the belts and water pump.

Strange indeed.

After you took off the 20" wheels, the car should had felt faster. Strange.

Sounds like your trans is not going into 1st gear. Sounds like the trans is only dropping down to 2nd from a dead stop. Do you know how to use "Sport Shift" mode? If so, from a stop, make sure that the gear display on the dash is showing "1" meaning first gear. Try that to see if there is a difference.

I have an 04 with 123,000 and actually just got my car back today. I was having the same problem from start and its like you have plenty of rpms but no torque...they replaced the fuel pressure regulator on mine and so far its ran great tonight my fingers are crossed that this will fix the problem.

Whether I have VSA on or off and whether in sport shift mode or not, I have bad take off. I've had stock civics take me off the line.

Has anyone came up with a solution because mine does the same thing. The dealer told me to try an after market air filter

Should I change the Acceleration sensor? Also, yesterday, as I was driving the l.e.d. next to D on the gauge started to blink, but the car drove normally in Drive and tiptronic. Could it be my tranny?
