Having issues with my HIDs

For some reason, my HIDs are not working in my 04 TL.. I check the fuses are all are good. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was going to cost about 1500$ to fix. Now they didnt tell me specifically what was the issue. How do I determine if its the bulbs or ballet that burned out, or if its the ignitor.

As well all not that, oem HID parts are exspensive AF!! I dont want to buy something and its not the issue

Well since both sides seem to be not working, you could physically check the bulbs. Our bulbs have salt particles in the middle of the bulb. I believe that little bubble the salts sit in would be completely black if the bulbs are blown. Usually though, our headlights will give you a little bit of a warning if they are going to go out, usually the bulbs will turn purplish/ pink and very dim of they bulbs are about to go out. I'm not sure how to physically test the ballasts themselves.

If you're looking to buy new bulbs, don't go to the deal they'll charge about $200 for a pair of bulbs. Go to TheRetrofitSource.com and look for philips 85122+ D2S bulbs. They're about $90 shipped for the pair. If you need new ballasts, your best bet is eBay for ballast, believe the dealer charged about $200 per ballast.

Thanks. I'll check out the bulbs in the AM. Hopefully its just the bulbs that burnt out. My brother use to leave the lights on after he park and let the "auto turn off" function kick in.

The 2004 TL was handed down to me from my brother. He sprung bearings and since he just got a 07 corvette, its just been sitting in there. Needs quite a bit of work, but It came slammed on 20s sitting on full tein suspension.. I purchased a 06 eninge with 62k for $1000 from a store in Miami. And thats where the journey begins

Can you pull the bumper and make sure power is getting to your ballasts. They are the silver boxes mounted to the bottom of the headlights. I find it hard to believe that both would have a problem at the same time. Also you can find replacement bulbs and ballasts for probably about 200 bucks i would say. Check out the HID forums and look in the buy sell for oem stuff, or you can buy a kit and put it in, just make sure the bulbs are d2s.

Bump. Didn't want to make a new thread as this thread is pretty close to my issue.
Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any signs of a ballast failing?

My passenger lo-beam isn't working. All fuses are fine. Bulbs are fine.
All wires and harnesses are connected properly.

The light just stopped working one day. I'm thinking it's my ballast as all other things are fine. Just not sure how to confirm.
Also, sometimes my sidemarkers flicker when the parking lights are being turned on.

I tried resetting my ecu and disconnecting the battery to see if it helped. It didn't.

The easiest thing for me to tell you to do is to swap out the igniters, then the ballast and see if that's the issue.

trial and error to figure it out before dealer, this way you will know for sure if the igniters or balast is gone

That's is exactly what I did.. Trail and error.. The dealer wanted 1500 to fix the problem when, it was simply the bulbs and one of the ignitors. Cost me only 200 dollars, and some time to fix it vs the dealers 1500
