Gas Mileage Dropping
Gas Mileage Dropping
Hello everyone,
I know someone had a problem with poor mileage recently, but I never looked at it, and I can't find it. So, if I am repeating a "known" issue, please forgive me and send me in the correct direction.
I have a 2005 TL six speed with 124,xxx miles. The timing belt was changed at 110k; just before I purchased it. I do not know the condition of the spark plugs, fuel filter, etc, but can and will look into it if someone suggests.
When I first bought the car, I was getting about 25 to 26 mpg per tank. Around January or so, it started dropping. First it was 24, then it leveled at 22 for a while. This past fill up, it's down to 20. Other than it being summer now, nothing has changed in my style or with the car. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?
Thanks,
jb

I really doubt seafoam will help.
THe OP sounds like he's on top of his maintenance game.
he knows his tire pressure is constant and is always using premium gas.
our engines run pretty clean, if you take off the intake manifold, it will be coated in a light oil, but NOTHIGN DIRTY.
with nothing changing, IT Could be a lazy 02.
sad thing is, it wont throw a code.

Yes, thanks, I am pretty meticulous when it comes to my cars. And I had good records come with the car. I mean, who actually fills out the maintenance log in the owners manual? I was impressed by that.
I've never heard of lazy 02s. That's a new one. And the only way to know would be to replace? Hmm, expensive. Okay, off to search on that subject.
