Front brake dust shield Rattle on TL-S

Anybody else hearing this? Windows need to be down, going slow over a rough road. You can hear it real well if there are cars parked along side to reflect the sound.

How can that one particular rattle be isolated from all of the other TL noises that are being reported on this site?

Yeah...

But read the other posts in this forum...

Pinging engines...

Rattling mirrors...

Your "rear end clunk" AND your rattling brake splash guards...

My '99 Camaro - which many Honda/Acura owners liked to put down for its "poor quality" made no noises of ANY sort during the 6 years and 80K miles that I owned it.

And that car came with the rare, 1LE performance suspension, which included (stiff) Koni DA shocks and very high wheel rates (the effective spring rate at the wheel). A stiff suspension like that "should" have shaken all kinds of things loose. Yet, that never happened.

Meanwhile, we have a "high quality" luxury car that costs almost twice what I paid for the Camaro and it's got more rattles in it than a nursery.

I own an '07 TL-S. Mine's been fine, but I only have 1K miles on the clock. Reading all these posts makes me wonder if I made a good decision in buying this car.

quality issues? Still love my 06 TL

HardDrivin,

I know what you mean but the thing is, all cars are made from metal and will make some noises, even the finest ones.
I laughed when my 31K mile 2002 TL-S lost a transmission. All the Acura guys were silent when I brought up the unperfect nature of these cars.
I mentioned that none of my lowly Chevies ever let me down with tranny troubles in the bad part of the city as my car did!

I have a Z06 Corvette and understand your feelings as a GM guy.
I love the Z and I love the TL as much for what it does everyday. Are TLs perfect? Hardly so; will they develop rattles and such? Yes. Be nice to your dealer and patient with the minor stuff as you make your car perfect (or repair the minor stuff yourself). I'm willing to put up with that because this generation TL is 95% right.
If you are like me, driving the car puts a big smile on your face!

I'll bet that next you'll say you wish you still had it...

Well, now's the time to sell it while it has no problems and find that 99 Camaro again....

My 07 base makes more of a clack/clink sound than a rattle. Only happens on some bumps (very specific bumps, so I very rarely hear it). It's not a continuous sound, and appears to be coming from the area of the left front suspension.

I'm wondering what it is, have not taken it to the dealer, because they would have a very difficult time reproducing the conditions (finding the right bump) that make the sound.

Have you somehow determined it's the dust shild or is this just a guess?

Just my first guess. I turned my wheels sharp to one direction and mule kick the tire on the tread surface. I could then hear the dust shield rattle. The car goes in next week for it's first oil change so i'll have them take a look then.

shield

Guys,

that does sound also to me as a shield rattle by the way it crackles. I have no proof but as the lugs etc. are torques to 80 Ft Lbs and are not loose ;I only hear it at a creep in the parking garage, if it is very quiet.

Update

Had Acura look at the front while it was in for it's first oil change.
They discovered defective pins on the brake pads. They've ordered new pins and springs for the pads. I'll post part #'s and exactly what they did when i see my invoice. The parts will not be in until Friday.
TSX loaner in the mean time.

rattle

George,

Good find! I will look for that one next time I rotate tires. I rarely ever hear it if it is the same noise. While a nuicense, I doubt it would ever have been a safety issue.
