Excessive Road Noise Help!

We just bought a 2005 TL after test driving numerous 2006 Accords, TLs, and TSXs. One of the problems we noticed right away with our used 2005 TL was excessive interior road noise; especially at higher freeway speeds. Knowing Honda's well, we specifically test drove the 2006 models for this. In fact, it was one of the reasons we disqualified the TSX and Accord. We were satisified that the TL had done a good job at reducing interior road noise. But the 2005 we bought is very loud (much louder than the 2006 we test drove). What could be causing the road noise and how can it be corrected?

I had the same issue.. And thought it was tires, but... Come to find out it was a rear wheel bearing gone to hell at 25k miles..

I've got the Michelin's on my car and they are very quiet. If your tire pressure is correct, it might be something else like the previous post said.

My 06 is extremely quiet on the freeway. The only thing I hear is a little wind noise coming from the windows.

Out of balance?

I've always found Michelins to be very quiet, but my General Exclaim UHPs are definitely quieter than the MXM4 that came on the car. That being said, I believe one or more wheels was out of balance. Since getting my A-specs and new tires, my "pull to the right" issue has disappeared along with the road noise. So maybe have your tires/wheels rebalanced.

Worn tires would be my first guess. Especially if they have even a slight amount of cupping/feathering the howling will start. This happened to me with only 15K on Kumhos, to the point where I gave in and decided to buy new tires. Abrasive/coarse road surfaces also contributes to more noise. Be sure to rotate tires regularly and recheck alignments since they do change over time. Good luck.

My 04 TL is making a noise much like shot wheel bearings. I have just over 42k miles on it and I'm hearing a drone that is tied to speed (not RPM) in addition to the tire noise. I hope it's not bad bearings but it's getting louder, so I'll have to have the dealer look at it.
