Smile Engine power loss, VSA light came on.....

Hey guys, been lurking here since 06' when I dove my tl with navi off the dealers lot. It was because of this forum that I installed 19' Penta wheels with 245's all-around, TEIN coilovers, EBC slotted rotors with red pads, K&N, Royal purple XRP oil.... few other things I can't remember. Next mod was the Redline type f fluid I've been reading about here, it didn't happen this weekend.

I was on my way home to get the TRANNY flushed when my engine lost power, vsa light lit up, and I couldn't get the car to go past 20mph.... if i floor it, it dies. My car has 130k on it and has had a crap load of issues since new.

It's had the famous TRANNY going out, rough idle issues and has eaten through several sets of engine mounts and oem front rotors. Is it me or do these cars have issues?

Any help would be appreciated, I asked around and was told it may be the computer. Has anyone swapped one out? I didn't find much on my search. I don't want to get ripped off by the dealer, please help.

Your TL went into "limp mode"; do a search for "APP sensor"-- accelerator pedal position sensor-- to see if those are your symptoms.
I understand it's not much of an issue to replace.

Welcome to AZ, lurker.

I saw something about that.. sounded too easy to be my fix I thought. I will have it looked at tomorrow, otherwise I guess it's going on a flatbed to the dealer. Know anythe decent ones? From what I have been told, they would need to program the computer if that ends up being the issue.

Thanks for your input, appreciated.

With the TL, I've only used Sierra Acura in Alhambra for the recall work and an EGR valve replacement-- I've done all other repairs, and independents take care of maintenance for me.

Where are you in SoCal? Check the Socal region thread at https://acurazine.com/forums/socal-310/ for good dealers and independents.

Another member had a reflash of the ECU/PCM for a similar problem: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...lash+limp+mode. Hopefully, that's the answer, but most other members replaced the APP sensor.

The car does accelerate on it's own... and it does seem the safe mode is on. I guess i'll go to autozone in the morning and see if they have a scanner they could plug in and check for codes. The cell was on for some time previously indicating a failed rear oxygen sensor. I assume the other code if any should pop up as well. It's funny how when a woman walks into a parts store, they either wanna help you with anything or just rip you off...

I'm in the south bay... I've used cerritos acura before but they are hit or miss. Overpriced on everything. I bought the car at sierra in Alhambra.

Most dealerships seem overpriced, esp. when you compare what independents charge or how simple some of the work is where the dealership is charging book rate.

Sierra missed changing the orange O-ring on the PS steering hose recall work, I discovered when changing it out a couple of months ago due to morning steering whine. Sierra does have a decent parts dept., though.

You may be closest to Power Acura, but IDK about it.

All the codes should be stored; G/L.

Codes are as follows :

P0134, p2251, p0155,p2631,p2176,p0134,p2176.

I cleared them and checked the app sensor connection.

Next I only get p2176.

Wait a little longer and I get:

P0123, p0223, p2122, p2127, p0134.

Any ideas? Feels like its on meltdown... my gas pedal is back and car will rev up now. Please help me get her fixed.

Almost forgot, there are comments such as switch b circuit input high, switch d circuit input low, switch e circuit input low and bank 1 sensor 1 on last set of codes.

Several throttle position and accelerator position codes in that sequence you have, according to http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=978933.

Thanks-It's getting looked into. I convinced someone to start on it who normally won't work on front wheel drives

he said he was going to replace the bad o2 sensor, replace my cracked air filter tube, clean it out and reset my computer and go from there. He also called the bluetooth people for my non working unit. They told him I need a new box. They admitted that heat and location is a reason for failure.

Great, all I have left is to fix my stereo which died last year and a malfunctioning navi. I'm getting there-I think. Anyone have thier stereo go to full blast with static or not work at all?

I also ordered those smoked side markers for the back and will get some tails as soon as I decide on what scheme I'm after. I like the clear and tinted look.

Hello All,

I am new to this site. Here is my problem listed below;

I too had my 2004 Acura TL VSA light come on and have total loss of power. I have spoken to other Acura folks they stated I needed to replace the (Part #APS 147) sensor. This is near to the upper left corner of engine are when facing it. Next to the cross member. The APS 147 sensor is the one the throttle cable connects to.

So I switch the old one out with the new APS 147 and still have the VSA light/loss of power that makes it no go over 20 mph.

PLease Help!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there another sensor I need to replace, or do I need to do something in addition to replaceing the APS 147 sensor...like reset something after I just replace the APS sensor.....

Any help would be great

Swit

Several 02 sensors don't just go out at once and if they do, the car does not run that bad. If it idles ok but dies when you hit the gas, it's most likely a fuel pump or regulator. This would cause it to die and it would cause the 02 sensor faults. If I were closer I would diagnose it for you in a minute or two, mechanics these days suck. Other cause could be the MAP sensor.

My car just had a CEL and VSA light while my wife was driving it on the highway. I took it into a shop that I've been going to for a while now (specializes Honda/Acura) and two codes were there. Both were related to voltage, one of them was APP sensor voltage not stable (or something like that). They ran electrical test and found the battery failed to pass. I've been noticing a bit harder cranking for a while and it seems that the battery was the blame in my case. After replacing the battery, no CEL came back and car behaves just fine once again.

If you think replacing the sensor didn't do much, find out how old your battery is and see if it needs a replacement.

You've probably figured this out already - but don't replace the rotors with OEM. They warp because they're crap.
