Engine Making a Nasty Noise When its Below Temp Outside

Im from Minnesota and its been freaking cold here since Friday. Saturday it got down to -12 Degrees with -32 Windchill! When i went to start my car for work it barely wanted to start, When it did start. Engine was making a really nasty sound like I cant even describe it really. But After the car warms up it goes away. When i drive now i notice a sound like something is Clunking around in my Engine. It is a Very Light sound though. I would have to turn off Air/Radio All the way to mayB hear it.

Is this Normal for the car when its Extremely Cold out?

Thanks in advance for any Feedback

Use a synthetic 5w20 for the easiest starts in extremely cold temps. The noise *might* be caused by the extremely thick oil and little flow from the oil pump at such cold temperatures. A synthetic oil would allow for easier pumping here.

if you need to operate your TL in those kind of temperatures, you really should have a block heater installed. most engine wear occurs at startup and no oil will flow sufficiently in below zero temperatures. a block heater will also help the starting system which is redlining at those temps.

I'm from MN too and it was freezing last weekend. After parking outside when I started the car, the TPMS kept going off because the PSI had dropped below 30 on the times. Obviously it's due to the cold weather but it was annoying after a while when it would nag. But it was cool to see that it was working and doing it's job. The car didn't have any problems starting though. Although sometimes I notice it takes a while for the car to turn over in the morning but I think that's due to emission controls.
