E-Brake Gone????!?!?

I changed my rotors and pads on the back of my tl yesterday. Now i have no e-brake. So I was afraid the inner shoes were out of alignment. So I pulled them back off, and rechecked clearance. Used the adjustment and tested the handle, which held the rotor to the point I couldn't turn it. So I put everything back together and still no e-brake!! Help?

did you readjust the e-brake per the rotor installation instuctions? Look in the 3G garage for the service manual scans, but from what I can remember, turn the adjustment screw on the hub to full lock, then unwind 8 clicks.

iirc- its adjust park brakes till the rotor wont turn by hand, then -6- clicks backed off- so you hear only a slight drag as the rotor turns

Did you check that no brake fluid leaked into the drum brakes (e-brake shoes) while bleeding the rears ?

If you can get brake fluid in the shoes while they are inside the rotor! thats pretty neat trick!
Perhaps the hand brake adjuster was turned the way up, and you need to release IT first, then adjust the brake shoes- then adjust the hand brake activation of the PARK brakes.
Anyone who has seen them KNOWS they are not for stopping in an emergency~
they are the smallest set of drum brakes known to man, they fit inside the center hub of the rear rotor---not much room there! On a good day, properly adjusted, they will reduce the strain on the transmission gears when parked on a hill.

That bring up the classic saying "It's possible but not probably."

I am a very careful person..so I won't do that. However, I have seen some guys work on cars... and they scare me.

I had looked, but I couldn't find anything on the rear discs as far as adjustment.

So its back to the store more a more low tech device,,, more suited to my computer skills.

2 things in life I just dont understand

Thanks, I'll try that adjustment. It mentions break-in, what is the process for the rear? And do I need to go ahead and replace the shoes?

Unless you have driven off with the park brake on several times- the shoes themself dont see a lot of wear- since they car is normally stopped and parked when they are in use~

Just adjust them correctly and try it.
NOTE the rear calipers and regular brake pads must be removed for this adjustment or you cant hear the park brakes as they drag and get tight while turning the rotor by hand
