Disconnected battery = check engine light?? Help
Disconnected battery = check engine light?? Help
I have a 2004 TL with 53k miles. I have never seen the check engine light on till I took out the battery. As soon as I hook the battery back up and back it out of the garage the check engine light came on. Is this normal to where it will reset itself and turn off? Have read about how it needs to relearn? This happen to anyone else or is it normal?? Read something about how it takes 3 days to reset. It's been 3 days and still is on.... I need help to know if this is normal or if I need to take in.
My TL is also a 04, and I have disconnected and reconnected the battery multiple times without the check engine light coming on. I never had to reset or relearn anything (except my navi/radio codes :P) after reconnecting the battery.
I have no clue what may be wrong in this situation, but this is just my experience.

Ok thanks. In the owners manual page 243 of the check engine light section it talks about it having a "readiness code"... It states: if your batter has been disconnected or gone dead these codes are erased. It takes at least three days of normal driving to set these codes again.
Then on page 263 it talks about how to test and reset ur readiness codes. It shows the steps you can do to recondition the vehicle.
The only other thing I did besides disconnect the batter was take out and put back in to check every single fuse within the cabin under the dash. Did not mess with the ones under the hood or anyplace elsewhere.

Hmm, I don't think those readiness codes will leave the check engine light on, though. Since I remember vividly the times after I re-hooked up the battery and I never got a check engine light on besides when I started up the car.
Have you tested to see if they are set?

To check if they are set, turn the ignition to ON (II), without starting the engine. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp will come on for 20 seconds. If it then goes off, the readiness codes are set. If it blinks 5 times, the readiness codes are not set.
Yeah. It did not blink. Lol. I did not know if it held the old codes untill the new ones were set. I might just need to take it in. I just feel like it was something with the fuses/battery. This cars never had an issue. As soon as I worked on it and backed it out of the garage it came on. I wonder if I put a fuse in the wrong spot plugging them back in. Haha. Damn! Will have to check that now. Hopfully I was not that stupid. It's possible.
ACTUALLY... just went outside and tried... it does blink...
Im gunna check every fuse, pull the battery for 30 min, and then do the reprograming thing like it says in the manual.
Hopefully that will do it... CROSSSSSSSS'SSS FINGERSSS
