Diesel put into tank

My son somehow managed to put about a 1/2 tank of diesel into his 2004 TL. Without going into the details of how that can even happen, we're looking for advice on where to start the repair process. The car ran about 50 miles then would not start the next day. So do we start by dropping the tank for flushing, replace fuel filter, plugs, etc? What else?

Worked on a few over the years, just as you're contemplating, I've dropped the tank and blew out the fuel lines, never needed to change the plugs. Some have disconnected the fuel line, energized the fuel pump and pumped the "blend" out in this manner. With an injection system, the fuel runs in a loop so any residual diesel with be pushed back to the tank and mix with the gas. Don't believe there will be any damage as it just stops running, not nearly a bad as putting gas in a diesel powered vehicle.

you didn't need a prayer as you knew what to do.
