Dashboard cracked...any help??>?

Hello everyone...I'm new to this forum but I have been an acura owner for quite a while...this is my 2nd acura tl....(my current car is a 2004 TL 6sp manual). I'm having the same problem with my current car as I did with my previous one....the dashboard is cracked at several places (mostly on passanger side by airbag)....I called the local acura dealer and I'm looking at $1800 for parts and labor. Does anyone out there know of a cheaper solution??? Both the interior and exterior is in excellent shape...very clean and than you got the cracked dashboard....I'm not sure wheather I'm unlucky or not, but for this to happen with two diff cars...same problem...looks to me like this is a reaccuring problem for the 2004 TL......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if its already cracked you might be SOL. It cracks because sun/heat dries it up and degrades the plastics. to prevent this from happening: park indoors, get a sunshade, use 303 aerospace (contains sunblock), use a dash cleaner/conditioner regularly (I like poorboys natural interior).

Replacement is the only answer unless you want to use a filler on the cracks to which I wouldn't recommend:

I vinlex the shit out of mine, also helps to remove that indentation where the airbag is. Seems like your SOL this time, but I would suggest that (as well as 303) if you get it replaced.

My only suggestion would be try and find another dealer that will goodwill you a new dash. It's a long shot but I would pull out all the stops before I forked over $1800 because Acura can't build a quality product.

There's a ton of info on this problem and what Acura is doing to make it right. Try a search for cracked dash.

Smile Best option

I went to my Acura dealer because my high pressure hose was busted(which was a recall so it was fixed for free)

The Service guy in Ft Lauderdale saw what has happened to my dash(about 10 cracks) and automatically told me he would contact American Honda to see if they would help out.

American Honda responded within 2 days and agreed to pay 90% of my dash replacement. BRAND NEW dash installed out the door for 165.00! I got lucky.

Sometimes its worth checking into to Acura dealer.

Good Luck

The least acura can do is lower the price for a new dash board!!! Mines is cracked as well and that ish is too much to buy new. If they will reduce the price, I'll buy one a put it in myself... $1800 do replace something they F'd up on.. smh

There are many posts about this and i am very surprised that Acura doesnt have a recall for this. It seems like the crack is always on the right side where the passanger airbag is.

I had this fixed w/out any issues at a local dealer. They wanted to split it with me and i told them if they check online this is a huge issue with many Acura owners not just TL.

He contacted American Honda rep and it was replaced for free. Took two days to get it replaced.

I would just go to a local dealer and dont give up...ask for service manager if you have to.

Glad I did a search for this before posting. Like the OP, my dashboard just cracked yesterday, less than a month after purchasing the car (not CPO). I don't have an Acura dealer close, but I wonder if I can get similar service from a Honda dealers (only an hr drive as opposed to 2+ hrs drive).

Also, does anyone know if this has an adverse effect on the airbag? Mine is cracked directly over the passenger air bag.

Honda has officially said it does not affect the airbag adversely, hence no recall.
