Damaged Seat
Damaged Seat
I have a 07 TLS that just turned 11K miles. I always take care of everything simply due to wanting to keep it nice. The other day, I went to vacuum and I noticed the passenger seat has several little tears right where your back would lay (near the bolster). Thing is, no one rides in the seat that much and I took it to the Acura dealership to see if they could figure out why it happened. Of course no one knew anything so my question is has anyone else experienced something like this? I was going to replace it until I found out the fabric alone is $675, then the labor of removing it, the air bag and so on. Then the upholstery shop wanted $500 to do it and who knows the actually outcome?? I don't know what to do now. No matter how much you try to take care of something, it never fails. I'm hoping maybe someone else ran into this before.
Anyone that has buttons, or any metallic object on their back pockets can cause damage to the seats as some people slide down the seat when entering. Not the TL, but on one of our cars, Mazda replaced the driver's back cover 3 times, no charge.
The car is still under the 4 year warranty. I showed the service guy and ask him about the warranty. He all but laughed at me. I just about went off but I tried to be nice figuring that would help more than cussing him out. I'm about to the point of contacting Acura to file a complaint but you guys know the ropes more so than I do. Any help or direction is appreciated.
Just to clarify the leather seat back replacement on the Mazda, the damage was done by the mechanics at the dealership so as it was their respoinsibility they picked up the $750 (list) each time.
If damage can't be blamed on Acura, it's going to be your dollars to correct the condition.

My husband had a sharp object on his belt that caused small tears on the driver's side back. It is normally considered a wear and tear item so I doubt going to acura corporate would help (unless you can proove it was a defect) We were lucky tho-the dealer replaced it as a one-time goodwill- Does help to have bought many cars and had them serviced there.
I have bought two cars from them. Looks like I will have to pay to have it fixed. I just can't figure out what caused it. Its about half way up the seat and there is nothing on a shirt or jacket that could have done it. Its not that bad, I just know its there.

I took it to two different shops already. One said it was beyond him and the other wants 450-500. Its cheaper but I wonder if they will do a good job?? Either live with it or chance it I guess.
