"D" Light Randomly Blinks
"D" Light Randomly Blinks
It's not an error code, just like, VERY random blinking. The only thing I have noticed will sometimes trigger it is getting on the gas. It'll flicker. It's NEVER like an error code pattern lol. I tried to find a way to replace the LED. Either I can't use search correctly or I'm just SoL on detailed DIY instructions. So, can I replace the LED or is it time for a new instrument cluster lol?
I did the pressure switches at like 195k miles, it's at 259k now. The trans fluid flushes I do every 30,000 miles. Trans fluid is good. It's had a flare from 2nd to 3rd gear since I got it. D Light never blinked from that. The only thing the trans recently started doing is, when I put it into Drive or Reverse and let off the gas (on a level surface) it'll just sit there instead of moving forward at a slow speed as an automatic should. But, the "D" light doesn't blink while it's doing that
The reason I think it's the bulb is that the blink pattern isn't even. It'll flutter and be random, half the time it'll one little blink and it comes back on lol.

yep no codes, at least that come up with the code checker at AutoZone. It seems like either the LED is broke or there's a loose wire I just dunno where to start with that lol.
jeffstlnote right, first you need look at the range switch on the automatic transmission, if the contact between the Drive switch and ground disappears in it, then the light will blink and there will be no codes because the automatic transmission thinks that you are just playing with the selector, when there is a completely bad contact, the automatic transmission will stop responding while driving. The system works like this. Range switch -> PCM -> Cluster. No pressure switches and internal automatic transmission malfunctions can cause the D bulb on the cluster to blink.

1. Drive with the scanner and see that D changes to N / A together with the cluster D bulb if Yes then.
2. Connect the power probe to the yellow wire on the range switch connector and during the ride, the ground should disappear along with the cluster D bulb if Yes. Thats 100% range switch replacement
Well, ya'll were right again! She finally threw P0706, so, just had the shop replace the neutral safety switch and it looks like the "D" lights has stopped randomly blinking like it's going out, my car moves as it should when in reverse or drive instead of sitting there until I give it gas sometimes, so. Gonna hit 260k miles on the drive from Michigan to Texas here shortly
3 and 4, or gear position sensor??

04 TL Canadian version
JUST FINISHED replacing all the NGK Iridium laser weld plugs 4 hours engine run time previous (smoothed idle out, better power, etc etc so all good)
Trany fluid was given the final of 3x3 treatment not even 20,000 kms ago (12k miles), each stage separated by days of travel between each. It was actually nicely colored before changing, not horrible, magnet barely any filings perceptible at all. No performance diff after 3x3.
Car spent winters in storage for the first 15 yrs of life, body underbody and paint pristine... except where that gdmn deer tried to hump my hood on the highway last xmas and ruined the windshield, sidepanel and hood (ABS works well it seems but can only do so much at speed/distance)
I had the OBDII (Autel 400 series) plugged in at the moment of 'the event' yesterday...
which was, i had hwy speed (105 kph) already set in place on cruise control, was at intersection stopped, pulled out normal, no roughhousing the car.
My driving was no different than the last 7 years (now 160,000kms); i never stomp around with it except to pass.
i had gotten the speed to required min. of 40kph for engaging the cruise, hit cruise, it revved up normal with non assuming speed increase.
I THINK it got to around 80 kps (which is about 3 to 4 gear up) when it suddenly went SPAZZ , jerked like it was trying to auto brake/auto accel, quick look the D light was flickering like a ground short or someone about to pull the lead from the battery except ONLY THE CRUISE SET and the D LIGHT indicators were acting up, not any of the other lighting or indicators as if a wholesale short was occurring...
All this in under two secs, then the car kicked itself out of cruise, seemed to coast as if engine was dragging or OFF, but I THINK I didnt see any gear selection lights activate, other than when D decided to show iup again and pretend to be back in gear...
So immediate pull to shoulder with foot light on brake, cruise stayed disengaged, and coasted to nearest driveway entrance, put it in P, indicator was fine, slow shifted down past R to N to D, all lit up, could feel trany engage at proper settings, and never had the prob again since (another several hours of urban/rural combo driving). I didnt have to shut engine off or reset anything, it was like a bipolar spazz out over and done quick.
The OBDII DID NOT get triggered. It was already in auto-record mode waiting for any sensor trigger to start recording, which I was waiting for in case of any after effects of my plug change.
I ALMOST convinced myself I caused the whole thing by bumping the stupid location of OBD plug insert under dash with left leg. I checked today, still no DTC codes or anytying bad at all.
I also thought MAYBE the cruise module got mental or something. I didnt give the new plugs installed a second thought.
But cruise has acted normal like last 7 yrs driving use, so has normal boring manual and auto T shifting, and nothing happened when either goosing it from standstill (abnormal) or goosing like I was pretending to pass another while at almost posted speed limit (more like me). I cant make it do it again, but want to fix whagever before it does on its own.
So relevant to this thread and these sensors, or THE OTHER thread? And how can I tell?
