Hello Guys,

Yesterday when starting the engine on a two month old 06 TL Auto,
I realize I heard a loud popping or cranking noise when shifting to reverse from parking.
So I played with it after it warmed up just to make sure everything was alright. Indeed not, when I shift from D to R it makes this loud noise again. I tried it in N gear as well same noise was produce.

Anyone of an idea what this might mean? Or were the problem might be?
Should I take this to the dealer to solve?

 

i have the same nosie in my 06 mdx and my 04 tl. I took it to the dealer and he said it was a normal thing. I put on the parking brake before putting the car in park then going to park. That has greatly reduced the noise. I thing it is just the extra stress on the transmission when the car rolls back that slight bit after parking.

 

Sure doesn't sound normal to me! Have them show you a new vehicle that does that.

 

I highly doubt it's normal, i'm just so scared of driving that thing with a loud popping sound everytime i shift, i really dont' want be stranded somewhere in no man land! I'm bring it to the Manhattan Acura dealership this friday i'll let you know CSMEANCE if they say it's normal or not for that loud crancking popping sound. Cause i never heard that popping sound until this weekend!

same here my 06 does the same thing
does any of ur tl produces a popping during the FIRST gear change after leaving ur car in the parking lot for a night ?
mine makes a poppping sound after a night in the parking lots
when it first changes from gear 1 - 2 it somteimes make a pop or sometime gear 2-3 it makes a pop THEN IT won't make any popping sound for the whole day till the next cold moring

 

i checked a few other makes and models, the poping nosie is the transmission engaging. The car rolls back about an inch or two after the brakes are relaesd in park. This rolling back puts stress on the tranny and causing the poping noise due to the extra stress. As i said above, the parking brake has stopped 99% of the poping. (the other 1% is the door locks engaging and the mirrors going down) RIght now, i am talking about autos because i have had almost no experience with MTs.

 

Have you tried a different parking lot?

 

i get the same thing in my 04 tl, and my dads 05 tl. my moms 00 pontiac gtp does the same thing. it is most pronounced when parking on a hill. I believe it is normal

 

i tried it with many different parking lots my under ground parking lot my school parking lot my friend's sidewalk it;s all the same

 

That's normal, sounds and feels like somethings dropping with a loud click or pop. Thats the gear/transmission engaging.
