Couple issues after doing complete brake job on a 6MT TL

Hello, All.

I installed Powerslot Slotted Rotors and Hawk HPS pads on my 2004 6MT. The front are fine and with no issues. The rear make a " chu chu chu chu sound" while driving... maybe they have just not settled in yet?

My biggest concern is that my E-brake does not hold at all and is very easy to pull up. I did a quick look and i think the spring came off. Any suggestions or feedback how to tighten the E-brake?

Thank you.

Not sure on how to tighten it, but how were the pads when you replaced the rotors?

you have to readjust the e-brake after a brake job! Check out the 3G garage on the service manual scans on how to adjust it!

Scroll down to Page 19-8 for the instructions.

For the rear sound, did the pads have 3 knobs on them? If so, you need to file off the middle knob:

For the e-brake, you might need to do a major and/or minor adjustment:

Did you use the service manual or one of the DIYs in the 3G Garage?

Thanks guys!

I will re-check the pads tomorrow for the knobs and adjust the parking brake.

I think there wasn't a 3rd knob and maybe they just need to settle in.

Ive did brake installs in several cars.. including my 6MT CL and never re-adjusted the parking brake. It worked fine and there were no sounds.. That sound is soo annoying.

Did you turn the p-brake sprocket wheel to get the rotor off?

There is a little slot on the back of the rear brakes to adjust the ebrake. The TL uses a drum style brake for the ebrake and it's adjusted just like old school drum brakes. You should be able to do it with a screw driver, you just have to figure out the direction to turn the knob.
