Clutch and Flywheel Replacement
This is one of those live and learn life lessons....
Noticed the rpms revving high before the car accelerated when I had a rode trip to Maine way back in the beginning of July (Car has 101k miles now). Problem got worse and worse and I finally decided to call a shop and get the clutch replaced or master or slave cylinders replaced in order to drive the car properly.....waited too long. It popped out of gear on the highway and wouldn't shift back in to any gear and I had to get it towed to a shop.
Flywheel heat scaring and pressure plate and clutch assembley destroyed....just thought I would let you guys know prices for this whole assembly to be fixed:
Flywheel (Acura) - $696.00
Clutch Kit - $590.00
Labor - $680
Couple other misc costs plus tax and my wallet took a hit of $2162.76.
Just a lesson to all those out there, if your clutch starts slipping take it in, do NOT push it....because you will destroy your flywheel and these Acura/Hondas have the special type flywheel that can not be turned down ythey have to be replaced.
Happy Driving.....

the overexplainer
Holy crap, but that still isnt as bad as rebuilding my family's Odyssey automatic transmission that fried itself. Total bill with 2 year warranty was 2800. Mind you, this is the second time it has been replaced. First one lasted 60k, then replaced by Honda under recall/ext. warranty, now this one just recently at ~120k.
I'll take the $2162 for what i'd say is a fairly major repair. For no reason should you be rebuilding the internal gearbox anyway in a 6MT for the life of the car unless your 3rd gear gets unusable.
Be glad you dont have the 5AT.

Yeah I bought the car used with 48k miles....from all my reading in the forums and postings online I've read that the clutch will go on these cars. (It was still the original clutch).
If I'm justifying the cost......I have literally only changed the oil and maintained proper fluid levels for 50k miles on this car. 2011 however was a different story....bad ignition coil, did the 105k maintenace (water pump, timing belt tensioner) and now the clutch and flywheel (which was my fault for being ignorant). So almost 60k miles on a car and $3300 in maintenace and fixes. I really can't be angry with that.
Plus....my drive in to work this morning was sooooo much fun. Made me remember why I love this car so much. Stay thirsty my friends....

Taking things from a new car, assuming the clutch is well designed for the car, the installation was done correctly, and there are no potentially weak parts used in its production, the only other factor in the life of the clutch is the operator. And this by far is the weak link. Operated properly, a clutch should last you as long as you own your car (this precludes towing, racing, or some other extraordinary factor in the mix). Under "normal" conditions and driving factors, if an original owner has to replace a clutch after only, say, 75,000 miles or so, he is doing something VERY wrong. So 48,000 miles is nothing to a clutch operated correctly. And unfortunately for you, you most likely have no clue how the previous owner(s) operated that car.

I thought you had to replace the flywheel anyway during a clutch replacement. I was just told yesterday that I need a new clutch, and I was quoted $1880. I asked if the flywheel was included, and he said "yes, they will machine it," but I said, "parts told me it can't be machined." He looked into it and apologized for the misquote and gave me a discount. The flywheel costs $677, so if you add that to $1880, it comes out to $2557, but with the discount, the new quote is $2100 + tax.

'05 TL 6MT Navi
Does anyone know if LUK DMF063 will work well in an '05 TL? I know that part is supposedly for the '03 CL but it's $70 cheaper on carolinaclutch.com right now AND there is a blerb on the 062 page that says "Special Notes: can use DMF063" I need to order a new one right away - my car is on racks at Honda with a technician waiting for me to order the part FML lol. Any input is great. TIA
