CLUNKING NOISE rear suspension ot wheel

having browsed this site i have discovered that i am not the only tl owner that is having this problem. at low speeds when i go over small bumps or even more when i ride over small depressions or manhole covers in the road i hear a clunking noise from the rear wheel. i've had my car in to the dealer twice but they have not found anything. being an intermittent noise, it doesn't neccessarily happen when i want it to. the dealer has checked the suspension twice and made sure everything is torqued to factory specs but still i have the noise. others at this site have suggested it is related to the struts but the dealer will not replace them unless they can confirm the problem being related to that part. today i placed a call to acura asking them to set up a 'case number' for my car and problem. the customer service agent told me this is the first she has heard of this complaint. since i am not the only owner with this problem i am asking the following.....

i'd like anyone who has a similar problem with their tl to call acura with this complaint and open a 'case number'. doing so, acura will assign a representative to your case who will hopefully be able to move this along. i am hoping if enough people bring this problem to their attention, i along with others will get this noise fixed once and for all. i appreciate all the help of the other tl owners on this site.

what year an dhow many miles do you have??

i also called acurs and they told me that they havent heard of this either. it takes a good number of complaints to set up a service bulletin. i am bringing my car down tomorow and going for a ride with the shop 4man. i will see where we go from there.

check out the thresd that is just below yours...man people have had success replacing the struts and the dealers did it no problem. i just hope it can happen to us.

This sounds similar to a problem many members were having when they greased the bushings on their Comptech rear sway bars. If I remember right, by not greasing the CT bushings or adding the Energy Suspension greasable bushings many problems were solved.

Now the obvious

Have you looked in the truck- like under the spare tire- and inside the toolbox/jack etc
Really tear into it with flashlight and mirror
Some freaky things get lost and will jump out at the right time thump thump thump

Also -based on a prior car- check the sway bar ends fpr scrapes, to make sure it has not moved somehow and hitting somewhere under just the right conditions, took months to track down that prob!

Struts normally show failure by leaking an oil fluid out a small hole. Check for that and give the car the old bounce test on the corners- if it acts like a bobbing boat- you need struts!

I would look at those sway bars for contact somewhere, cars get beaten around during shipment and things happen.
My Mazda had a front bar shifted just enough that under extremely specific conditions of low speeed and bumps- thump thump thump

Look for a shiny spot or missing paint

I think I share the same problem except it's more like a thud than a clunk (non-metallic sounding).

Have you checked for your lug nuts key.

It could have jumped out and gotten stuck down in the pillar

i had this problem before i changed the swaybar. The problem is that the swaybar brackets become loose and the bar slides on the busing causing a thunk or thud. To fix, tighten the 2 bolts on each of the bushings (located near the middle or the swaybar) to fix. For a better fix, take the bushings and brackets off, clean properly and apply some lithium car grease to it and put back on and tighten. Go for a drive with a few turns and see if the problem occurs. Then come back and retighten the bolts again to ensure.

to elborate why it might be the swaybar:
the swaybar keeps pressure on the rear suspension keeping the car stable and flexable turing tuns and bumps. When the bushings or "rubber grips" become loose, the pressure of the bar pushing on the bushings casues a thunk or thud. An example of this is an earthquake.

I'm having the same problem on my 06 TL automatic.

The noise extends to when my car is on and parked, I've taken it to the dealer who advised that they did not hear it; however they did hear something in the front of the car (they fixed that)

I bend down near the back wheels and I can hear it clearly, I'm wondering if the service person and the mechanic need a hearing exam. I will be taking it back and helping them recognize the noise...I'll update all on the outcome.

My car has only 1800 miles and clunks in the front and the rear. The engine is also making some racket. I am making a service appointment this week.
These problems along with the interior rattles have definitely ruined my "new car experience". I definitely expected more from Acura.
I hope the car improves. At this point, I am dissapointed with my car and sorry that I bought it.

Yesterday I spoke w/ my Acura dealer (Paragon in Queens NY (WORST DEALERSHIP EVER for service)) after bringing the car for the 4th time and explaining the knocking / clunking noises from the rear suspension they finally agree and ordered parts to fix the issue. They said its the rear brushing for the strut.
Hope it fixes the issue... And Im going to open a case tomorrow...
