Clicking speedometer while car is off.
Clicking speedometer while car is off.
This is my first time writing here, I am a female and I dont know much about cars and was wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I had just bought a 2005 acura tl and noticed when I shut off the car the speedometer clicks every minute or every other minute, which will cause the battery to die if I don't use it everyday.
Can someone please tell me what it can possibly be, maybe I can make suggestions when I take to the dealer so they can check it. I took it to acura today but they couldn't find anything

However, the HFL--Bluetooth unit-- was designed to stay active for 30 minutes after the ignition is shut off, before powering down. Enough HFL units failed to shut down that Acura has a Technical Service Bulletin on replacing the HFL if it remains powered up more than 30 minutes after ignition shut-off. The HFL unit is between the sunroof switch and the rear view mirror mount-- check to see if you're hearing clicking from there.

My husband looked at it and said its the needle on the speed gauge only that jumps a lil and goes back down every 30sec-1min when the car is off no keys in ignition and only when the door is closed. It won't do that if door is open. Please, thanks in advance
I am having the same problem on my 2006 TL. While sitting in the car with the ignition off the speedometer gauge drops below zero and ticks back up every 30 to 50 seconds. Does anyone know what might be causing this and if there are any problems that this might cause? Btw I'm a new member and I think this site is great! All of the info posted by users has helped me a lot with my new acura, thanks!

I had this problem on my 05. I'd turn the car off, the gauge would go nuts and I'd hear all this clicking under the drivers side dash. The alarm also would just start going off at random times for no reason. I checked the battery and it was good.
I ended up having to get a new windshield put in due to a crack. The guy who replaced it said the previous windshield was barely even sealed and had all sorts of leaks. Once the new windshield was put in, the problem just magically disappeared.
I'm not saying that is the problem but I just thought I'd share my experience.

Guage twitching solved
Will Y was on the right track with the post about the bluetooth module. After doing more research on this problem it seems that the module problem is very common on these cars. It continues to draw current from the battery and eventually the car won't start. Check the area where the garage door opener buttons are, in front of the map lights. The front left corner may feel warm. This is a sure indication that the module is not powering down. It is very easy to get to and disconnect. Even if it is not warm you may want to try disconnecting it to see if it solves your problem. I don't know why it makes the gauges twitch, but it stopped when I disconnected the one on my TL.
I was a mechanic for over 30yrs and I would never have suspected that to be related.
I found this link on how to disassemble and get to the module.

Don't worry about it-- all the TSBs are available at: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-technical-service-bulletins-tsbs-3g-garage-j-016-a-613659/ .
