Check engine light on: idling issue and car stuttering

This just started yesterday as my car hit 45k miles. My check engine light came for the first time ever. At idle and very low speeds I can feel it shaking. I still have 60% oil life and will check my oil level in the morning.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Get to the nearest Autozone to pull the codes. This should tide you over until you get to your nearest Honda/Acura dealer to get it properly checked out. Normally I'd say don't worry about it since it's usually just some emissions nonsense causing the light but if you're seeing driveability issues it could be something more serious. Again, minimize your driving until you know what it is and can be sure that you're not doing damage to your car. Good luck, I hope it's a cheap fix.

Agreed: get the code & go from there.

only go get the code if the car still is drivable, but if u feel it struggling a lot i would suggest not driving it as you dont know what parts u may be damaging. at that point u may have to get it towed to a shop or your nearest dealer

but if its just a sensor or something driving it to an autozone to get the code pulled would be no big deal

Yea i was planning to get the codes pulled this morning. Could it be the spark plugs? My car has had no prior issues and always been serviced on time

The plugs are designed to last 105k miles plus some so it's highly unlikely that they're worn out at 45k unless the car spent it's whole life running around town at redline. Hopefully it's something simple like a bad sensor that caused the ECU to go into "limp home" super rich mode. Minimize driving it and drive like a grandma in a Lexus until you get it figured out. Sometimes a small cheap part failure leads to big expensive failures if left untreated.

I went to auto zone and they pulled the codes it said faulty EGR valve/sensor and recirculation of exhaust.

The EGR sensor at auto zone costs 73 bux. All the mechanic shops and dealerships were closed today so I'll need to get this fixed tmrw. I'm not gonna drive my car a d only drive it to the shop which is not too far.

Question - how much would this cause to get fix and is this a common prob? Also will I cause prob to my car if I drove it?

Thanks

Don't buy a new EGR valve. Pull the valve and blow it out with compressed air. You probably have a foreign object sticking it open. Simple fix, two bolts and a connector to get it off. Look in the Garage, there is a DIY for this.

Or do a search for "EGR valve". Use the quotes for you search term.

have the same issue. Dealer wanted to charge 310 and my mechanic was going to charge me 55 for labor but the part itself is 75 bux.

Do we need to remove the engine cover (Platic cover with Acura emblem) in order to get to the EGR valve?

Thanks

yes, you'll need to take off the engine cover.
two bolts and a wire connector.
15 min job.

we dont know the extent of the clogged valve.
compressed air should get rid of anything clogging it, but in case of a stubborn piece of carbon, you could spray carb cleaner.

Good grief dude, make a little effort to use the resources provided in this forum: the Garage (aka Service Dept) and the search function.
