I have a 2004 TL with 161k miles and today noticed that the check engine light would flash for a few seconds but only with the key turned but the car not started. It only flashes with the car not turned over only with the key turned to the on position and then it goes away. Car drives perfectly fine no issues and check engine light doesnt come on or flash while im driving.

 

Anyone?

 

I think that is normal. This is so a technician can determine if the bulb is good. Some people have been known to defeat the check-engine light so seeing the light briefly turn on at startup is a good indication that the bulb functions.

 

May be the check engine light needs to be checked

 

Its normal, mine does it every time from day one ... not that i can remember but yeah still very sure that its a normal behavior....

You guys ever read your owner's manual? p.243 (2004 manual)

A flashing MIL with the key in the ON position (engine off) is not normal and means the readiness codes are not set.
