Changed my mounts!

I know this info is all over the forum just wanted to outline my mount experience.

Symptoms:
Rough Idle
Vibration when driving, that seemed to vary, I am wondering if this is what the valves are supposed to fix as I can still barely feel it, sometimes.
clunking when shifting from P N D
Car shaking/rocking back and forth when turned on or off
A slight lag during acceleration, I know the TLs arent perfect but I used to be able to feel more of a shift when accelerating now it is smoother.

Anyways I first replaced the front and side mount myself, I could not get to the rear one, and gave up. the side was cracked, front looked fine as far as I could tell, the car ran smooth for a few days, then returned back to the old state, so I took it to a shop they replaced the rear one. The bolt was seized so they had to take the mount and the arm that attaches to it out completely, no idea how they did it all I know is im glad I didnt run into this when trying to do it myself.

Now driving and idling feels like an electric car compared to what im used to, it is amazing..

ALSO, my rear mount was not cracked or leaking.. So I have no idea how someone could inspect it and determine it was shot.. Even the shop said I should have let them diagnose and that it didnt need to be changed. But when I drove it I knew I had made the right diagnosis.

I have discovered that not all the time will something look bad when it is. It may look perfectly fine but it has been worn down and is no longer any good.

I have similar symptoms. I notice drivetrain vibration at low RPMs when I'm on a slight incline. I've had the dealer check the mounts twice and they keep telling my they're ok. I noticed there is now a TSB for the front mount and they mention clunking on startup/shutdown. I get this and will mention it again when I take it in for the 3rd gear TSB. What exactly are they looking for? Leaking fluid? Do they have test for the mounts other than a visual inspection?

Your vibration I'm willing to bet is your axles. Just do a search on that and you'll see that is your problem.

Also I feel like we just change all the mounts (Engine +Tranny) after a certain amount of miles (100K or sooner) because they all fail at some point but visually look good always.

Also for the OP.... did you notice any handling issues that deteriorated with the Rear mount being bad? Cuz I have that clunk on start up, shut down and shifting as well... that I can actually feel on the floor board of my car on the drivers side. Dealer already replaced front and side mount. Wonder if its my rear mount or my tranny mounts.

I also get the vibration while parked in neutral. I feel it most around 1500rpm. My theory is the slight incline unloads one of the mounts, I suppose the front in this case. The dealer insists they're fine though.

After I replaced my front and side, about 1 week later the same symptoms started again, after I had the rear replaced it basically solved everything.
Now I get a slight vibration sometimes but nothing else.. The vibration is something that was worse before i got my mounts changed but I can now still feel that same vibration, no idea what it could be. but no more clunking shaking or any of that

Well if its your mounts you should be able to shift between drive and neutral and feel a difference.. When in neutral before I changed my mounts the vibration would all but go away, infact I think the little vibration I have left is the same as it was in neutral before changing the mounts, but now there is no difference between drive and neutral.

did you replace the transmission upper mount too? that often goes bad along with the other mounts. i did the side and front engine mount myself and the side upper transmission mount, they were all bad. i have yet to do the rear and im dreading the amount of work it will be...might take it to a shop if im feeling lazy at the time. this is what my front mount looked like when i took it out:

however i didnt really feel much increased vibrations....maybe slightly but nothing that would make people question if something is wrong with my car. i do have a slight steering wheel shake at idle which i hope changing the rear mount will fix.

I will have to look into the transmission one, how easy is it to replace compared to the front and side engine mount?
I could not get my sway bar off which is the reason I originally took it to the shop to replace the rear, however when removing it the bolt was seized and they had to remove the mount and the arm attached to it, and re-thread the bolt. I suppose for me it was a stroke of luck, that I didnt try to do it myself.

do you guys know if the rear mount can be changed all through the top of the engine bay? or is the sway bar/subframe removal required? i have access to plenty of sockets, extensions, universal joints, that would be enough right?

the side transmission mount is okay. battery tray removal will be required, its not hard but its tricky angling the tools down there because the bolts are really hidden, you will not be able to see them, you have to feel for it. i got by because i have small hands but i dont know about the rest of you guys

Im pretty sure there is a guide for the rear mount somewhere, some people said they did not have to remove the sway bar but I think that would be crazy/impossible

According to a "DIY" that I saw here on the forum, the rear mount comes out from the top. The cross brace that goes from one side to the other has to come off then once the engine is supported, the mount is turned upside down and carefully fed up through the maze of hoses and wires thru the top. The reason you turn it upside down is its less likely to snag on all the hoses and wiring. I've ordered the mounts and have been doing some research here on the forum on how to do it. Really good info here. Just do a search.
