Car Won't Start

Hey guys,

I just came back from a road trip a couple days ago, parked my car in the garage, and now when I go to start it I can't do it. I put the key in, turn it two clicks (for accessory power) and the dash lights up but it kind of flickers and dims randomly. I tried to start the car but it doesn't turn over (maybe tries for 1/2 a second then nothing). Tried to jump start it with my bro's car but I couldn't start it either. I wish I could say its the fault of a dead battery but If I couldn't jump start it there must be something else right? I'm thinking either key needs to be reprogrammed (this is what the dealer suggested when I called) or maybe the alternator? Anyone had this problem before or know how to fix it?

Try to jump it again.

Or put a known good battery in there.

It's not your alternator.

Probably the battery, but make certain the cables are tight and clean. If there is a cable connection problem, the jumpers won't work either. Turn on the interior lights and give it a try, if they go dim or out when trying to start, electrical supply problem, bat or cables. If no go, remove the bat and have it tested.

Generally, when your lights go dim, it is an indicator that there is not enough juice in the battery to start the car.

I remember when I couldn't start my car a month ago.
Replaced the starter, everything's good =)

Turbonut is right, the first place I would check is the connections on the battery. My Mom's battery was fine but there was alot of corrosion on the positve terminal. I cleaned it off and she has had no problems.

If the battery is really dead, it acts like a resistor and makes it hard to jump.
