Car "shutters" when starting off.
Ok, I have a 05 6MT and when I take off the car shutters....best way I can describe it. Now I'm not sure if it's the clutch that's going or the motor mounts. I've tried to get the clutch to slip and it doesn't. Going up a hill in 5th or 6th should slip, correct? When I shift through the gears I can't shift smooth and it feels like it bangs a little. Now I've never had to replace the clutch on any of my other cars I have owned so really dont know what to look for if the clutch is going. My car has 87K on the odo. Can't imagine the clutch going already. I had a 99 integra which i beat the piss out of for 130K and the clutch was still fine. Any in site would be greatly appreciated.
Papaman, I had the same exact thing happen to me yesterday. First time ever. 6MT with 121,000 miles. Wifey likes to downshift without rev-matching, so that obviously didn't help. Anyhow, today it didn't shudder at all. I checked the fluid reservoir and it was at the min line so I got a bottle of fresh Honda brake fluid, siphoned out what old fluid I could, and filled to the top line. Local Acura and Honda dealers both said check the engine mounts by putting the emergency brake on and then put the car in gear as if to start off. Did that and no massive movement IMHO. A new Honda dealer just opened here and will let me bring my own parts + give a 15% discount on labor. For now I'm thinking just keep an eye out for future episodes. Don't want to let it get too bad of course or I'll need a new flywheel to boot. Looks like partsgeek.com for the clutch kit and carolinaclutch.com for the flywheel if needed...

Just wondering if there's any other information we can provide members if this happens to them.
Shudder is likely from a warped flywheel/pressure plate or clutch material deposits. The clutch can be fine from a wear standpoint but you get material deposits or warping from excessive heat when it's driven incorrectly. It also reduces holding power. Mounts aren't a bad idea to check first but it's probably the clutch assembly.
Thanks as always Matt! I'll continue to monitor for any more issues. Been lucky so far. Will probably just run her till she blows up and replace the flywheel, pres plate, clutch disk, and bearings at that point (i.e. start with a fresh system). Goes into all gears easily so I'm thinking the tranny side is still in good shape.
Sidenote: Getting ready to do the Auto Rx treatment (that you recommended last fall) with my next oil change. Of course a few ringland deposits don't quite equate to a warped flywheel, but hey, you take each battle as they come....
