Car seems sluggish lately
i have a 2006 Acura TL, and lately when i drive, i feel the car has gotten extremely sluggish and the acceleration is just horrid. Currently i am at 64k miles, and have been keeping up with all oil changes / air filter changes. Any suggestions to why it could feel so sluggish?

Have you reset your ECU lately? The car can become a dog if it has not been reset in a long time. Assuming you have an automatic.

I did every cooling mode possible and it helped about 5% percent. Its unbeliveable what the heat does to this car. Everything goes to shit, i dont even wanna drive it how bad it is. And on top of that the gas milage cuts in half if not worse....

Heat index has been as high as 110 around here in Chicago and I have noticed no sluggishness on my 07 Type S 6mt. Atleast nothing abnormal that every car experiences during such high temps. Im still convinced if guys on this forum are reporting that it is horrible and sometimes needs to be floored then there is clearly a problem and it is for sure more than just "heat soak" issue.

The funny thing is that many and many more are starting to complain about the same symptoms. Ive never seen any car loose that much power from heatsoak. Its amazing. My car feels like i starts off in 2nd gear. and thats how my powerband continues...

My 07' TLS has the same exact problem. When I floor the pedal from a dead stop there is NOTHING, The car has no power & is a slug, until Rpm's hit about 3,200 then a surge. I've reset the ECU endless times, gone to the dealer only to be told: "It's fine" I change my air filter every 15,000 miles, only use premium gas, add sea foam to the gas tank every 10,000 miles & still a slug. It never ran like this ever before. No fault codes in the computer. Last week the dealer offered me $14,000 for it & I'm still thinking about it, get rid of it & buy a 09' G8 GT with 360hp. I've NEVER owned any car in my life like the TLS with such a pathetic loss of power. MY 98' accord V6 with 255,000 miles runs better than this POS.

same problem here buddy.... this is worse then an unreliable car. Here either there is no fix for this issue or we are chasing ghosts cause there was never a check engine light or any code for that matter. Im never gonna buy an acura again. Im waiting for the Golf R to be released. As i said in previous threads, when i was shopping for cars with my dad for him, anything we drove and everything was much havier and less powerfull, yet all of them felt so light on there feet. Smooth acceleration, torque and no lag whatsoever. That experince dissapointed me even more...

@TVL, what your experiencing from flooring it at a dead stop is probably the VSA kicking in to stop the wheel spin. If you turn VSA off it should spin/roast tires and haul ass....Its been pretty damn hot around here too and I'm not getting what you have and my car has 108,000 miles on it.

There are couple mods you can do to avoid the heatsoak and I think you should look into it....most of them are free:
1> Ultimate Cooling Mod
2> Throttle body spacer/Thermal Gaskets
3> Intake manifold thermal gaskets
4> Throttle body coolant bypass
5> I am working on something and will let you know once I see the results are worthwhile...they look promising so far
I would try these....1/4/5 are free and 2/3 are $60-70 each....

I would suggest doing some of the mods i listed about....this will cool down your engine bay a lot....

I think this car has the best of both worlds....it has the luxury to offer and the styling to stun and the power to impress (kinda)....I would pick the TL-S anyday....earlier i used to this this is a chic car but then i realized this is more of a chic magnet coz the way the chics used to digggg my car

I hardly doubt it was the VSA....i think what he means is he has to floor it to have the car to go anywhere....

Ok I just changed my spark plugs. its an 2005 with 38000 miles on it but i still gave it a shot, not thinking it would do anything but it seems as if it helped. The car has much smoother powerband then before, didnt notice the sluggishness as of yet.... further testing will tell

I have all the cooling modes, when it goes into that sluggish mode there is almost no help at all. I have UCM, all plastic removed, all the p2r spacers... evem redline watter wetter . Throttlebody coolant bypass... and so on.. High flow cats, which should help with heat aswell.

i heard somewhere that you should not use water wetter....I think i spoke to IHC and he was saying something about it....lemme try to locate his email....
spark plugs shouldnt change much....but if you have been putting seafoam in your engine oil case couple times, the spark plugs might have been begging for a change....but still the plugs shouldnt affect much....

Ok today, hot weather and very humid as well, with the new spark plugs the car felt the heatsoak a little but not even close as it used to do so. I guess i had a problem with the spark plugs in general. So far so good. If it stays this way i wouldnt complain much.
