Car Dead. Can't put it in neutral?

My car's battery died and I was trying to get it into neutral and push it to a spot someone could jump me.

But for some reason it won't let me.

Anyone have this problem before? or know how to fix it?

Put the car in II position (when your gauge cluster/radio lights up)
Press brake pedal, put it in Neutral

Remove the shift lock cover located to the left side of the “P” on the console. Insert the key into the slot, then push down on the key and move the shift lever out of Park. To release, move the lever to Park, then remove the key.

I had the same problem with my 2014 MDX - could not shift into Neutral without engine running and dead battery.
By trial and error, I hit on the solution, nothing in manual about this. (Note: You must have 'some' voltage present, either from low battery or jumper cables, probably at least 10 volts.)
With key fob present, press ‘Start’ button twice then release. Press down on brake pedal. Voila, move shift lever to ‘Neutral’.
