Pressing on the gas pedal doesn't prime fuel like older cars with carburetors. In fact it doesn't do anything at all in a fuel injected dbw vehicle until the car is started. If the battery were dead it won't attempt to turn over, but instead you'll hear clicking. Starters typically sell between $100 - $200.. stay away from Napa starters or starters that are rebranded from China. Best thing to do is to get your battery & your alternator / charging system checked out, they'll test the voltage on the battery then hook up a meter to verify enough charge is being supplied while your vehicle is on. If you only experience this in cold mornings it's more than likely your battery, get a higher rated cca battery.

Also.. if it refuses to turn over and you don't hear the starter spooling.. take a hammer and tap it a few good ones.. it might knock off enough carbon buildup to get it going.

how many miles do you have? it may be still covered under warranty. my car is in for a warranty fix (passenger seat heater not working) and they did a complimentary battery check. they said my terminals were corroding (weird, i check them each time i wash the car) and they replaced the terminals and the battery under warranty.
