Can't get windshield clean
Can't get windshield clean
Seems that no how much I try, can't get rid of little clear spots on windshield. I'm thinking that they could be remnant spots (read wax?) from an auto car wash. I've used windex and auto glass cleaner and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
All. Thanks for the responses...
Had some red-wine vinegar and tried that....Didn't seem to do the trick.
Afraid that if I use a razor, either I'll injure myself or scratch the car.
Not sure what is meant with the suggestion about claying the windshield.
And need to find out more abouth what scratch-x is.

Since you tried vinegar and it didn't work, it sounds like it's something that may be chemically etched into your glass. I'm not sure what to do in that case. I have removed water spots and overspray using steel wool (finest grade - I forgot the numbering) with soap as lubricant. It polishes the glass and makes it very smooth. That could work. You might also want to try specifically designed glass polish with some good old-fashioned elbow grease.
Good luck!

A single-edge razor blade in one of those little plastic holders they sell at homeboy depot in the paint dept with soapy water as a lubricant will work well. Don't scrape, use the blade like you are trying to take a thin slice out of the window. I also like Yakuza's steel wool suggestion, but if whatever it is is really stubborn, it might not get it. The blade is pretty much guaranteed. I used the blade trick before I tinted the windows on a older car, it was amazing how much gunk it got even after scrubbing with windex. It made the windows look new on a 20 yr old smoker's car.
Scratch-X is made by Maguier's. It comes in a tube. What it's really made for is taking minor surface scratches out of your paint. It actually just takes off a layer of clear coat to "remove" the scratch. However, I read somewhere that it can be used on a variety of other surfaces to work miracles.
I had weird spots on my gauges that I could never get off and I tried the scratch-x and it worked wonders. It also took off bug guts that had seemingly permanently attached themselves to my headlights. Good stuff!
