Camshaft thrust cover oil leak

I need an opinion on whether anyone has replaced this before and how to replace it. This is for an Accord V6, engine is almost identical.

The engine has an oil leak from the front camshaft thrust cover on the cylinder head. I know for sure because I took brake cleaner to it a few weeks ago. The oil leak isn't coming from the valve cover, but from the camshaft thrust cover next to the EGR valve.

From the parts diagram, it looks like you can just remove the cover and replace the o-ring inside, part #13 in the diagram (most likely the cause).

Please advise and thanks!

should be a really easy fix once the EGR is off unless anything else is in the way, just 2 bolts and an O-ring

just don't score it and make sure the o-ring is relaxed in it's seat or it gets thinner (if its stretched or twisted)

probably going to have to use something like a gasket scraper to wedge between the head and the end cap at the seam and pry it off a little at a time from one side and the other

odd to see a leak there

It looks easy, but the question is whether I'll mess with the existing position of the camshaft?!?

that cam isn't going to budge, it's got the cam pulley on the other end it's not going anywhere, the thrust cover just pops into the end of the cylinder head just like in the picture it isn't attached to the cam or anything

Just did this repair. It seems like a rare problem, but my car was definitely leaking there.

Only hard part was getting cover off without scoring inside cover. The cover was wedged in tight and I did not want to put a small screwdriver between the mating surfaces as was suggested by the poster in the attached picture.. I finally succeeded by using a small vice grip on the bolt hole (contact area marked A and B). I made sure the vice grip did not touch the inside mating surface and 1) pull a little 2) move grips to the other side 3) pull a little 4) repeat 15x.

It's an easy repair. The O-ring part # is 91301-P8A-A00 for your CLS6. Slime the o-ring heavly with oil before reinserting the cover back into position. Moving gently while applying pressure. Make sure you don't over tighten the two cover bolts into the head when reinstalling, no more than 16lbs-ft.

Repair has held up well. The old o-ring was flat.

Be careful removing cover (IMHO, do not pry between mating surface).

Also, as others have written, be careful putting cover back. Don't rush or the o-ring could get caught between mating surfaces.

I think mine is leaking as well. Thanks for posting the Part # of the O-ring.
