A/C compressor help
A/C compressor help
My A/C was not cooling but discovered that the refrigerant (134a) was completely empty. Recharged it and when the TL was sitting still, it was kicking out cold air so I thought the problem was solved but after driving the car the A/C would go from cold air to room temp air and then back to cold air. I noticed that when sitting still the compressor would kick on and off in quick spurts. Sometimes the compressor stays on for a while but then it goes back to kicking on and off. Im wondering if my compressor is going bad or if I may just have a leak? I was also wondering if anyone had a maintenance diagram of the system so I could so alittle trobleshooting or even be able to remove the compressor if that is the problem.
Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the compressor itself is stopping and starting, or are you just experiencing random cold then hot then cold air?
I said a similar problem last summer and had to replace the compressor. Apparently, there's an un-replaceable thermal switch inside these units that goes bad which causes this symptom.
Rockauto has the Denso OEM compressor for around $225-ish. The stealerships quoted me $1200-$1400 parts and labor to replace it.

like I explained to you in the other thread
1. you over charged it. All cars that use R134a have a high pressure cut-out switch. It will cause the compressor to cycle on and off rapidly as the pressure builds up the switch cuts it off. When the pressure drops the switch closes and the compressor re-engages.
2. you gotta find the leak and repair it. Most likely cuplrit is the condenser followed by the compressor seals.
the compressor with clutch will run you about $375-450

You probably overcharged it, did this last summer and i would get cold cold air, then warm air.. and I can hear the compressor turning on and off .. took to my auto guy he pumped out all the R134A and replaced.. have not had an issue since...
^^^ Yep, just get a basic A/C diagnosis--usually around $29. They will check low and high side pressure. You clealy have some sort of leak (could be very slow which a simple charge will fix for quite a while, or a worse leak). Good garages will have a freon sniffer that can help locate the leak. At this, you'll have a better idea of how to handle your problem. Good luck!
