Brand new 07, weird battery/electrical problem
Brand new 07, weird battery/electrical problem
A week ago I picked up my new 07 TL w/ Navi. I haven't had much chance to drive it, with my short commute I've put under 75 miles on it in the first week, all short trips.
Last night after I drove it home I was parked with the key on ACC and was programming some radio stations, playing with the Nav, etc. After about 15 minutes of that the Navi console began repeatedly restarting (going to black, to splash screen, and restarting again). I went to turn the car on and got a solenoid clicking as if the battery was dead, and the car wouldn't start.
I assumed that I had somehow drained the battery, perhaps leaving an interior light on earlier in the day, since 15 minutes on ACC shouldn't kill the battery. A couple hours later I went to jump it and on a lark tried to start it, which it did with no problem.
Any idea what could be causing this? Intermittent electrical problem, some sort of drain while running on ACC, or other? I haven't yet checked out the battery to see the charge level, but I am concerned that all my short trips haven't fully charged it up since I took delivery.

Mike

It sounds like you just sat too long with out the car being started and drained the battery. Good Batteries can acutualy bounce back if you let them sit for a little while. They kind of recharge themselves.
I can't believe I am reading my exact same experience with my 04 TL today. I sat in the car and was listening to the radio with the engine off when the NAV started to reboot. The car could not be started. I just got a jump from another car and was on my way. I will have to say that the batteries on the 3G TL is undersized. There has been a slew of complaints from owners. Now I dare not let the car sit more than 10 minutes without the engine running.

I discovered my 06 battery was leaking at the seam where the case and the top cover of the battery are supposedly sealed. The battery tray allowed some of the leaking electrolyte to spill out, so I had to clean/neutralize and recoat the structure below the tray. The alternator output checked ok before replacing the battery with an Optima Red Top 34R. I made a warranty claim at Baranco Acura for the replacement cash value of the battery, which will then invalidate the Acura battery warranty. When I was asked if I really wanted to do this, I showed them the spillage cleanup area and asked them how many Acura replacement batteries will guarantee not to spill and damage the car? Waiting for a check in the mail.
The batteries in the TL are notorious for giving out early. I had issues with mine dieing all the time. Replace it with an Optima battery and you probably won't have another issue like this for a very long time. Stock battery is just plain garbage!
my 07tls is having major power issues too..... car has under 3000 miles.. parked in the parking garage at the airport in late march, lights off, no aftermarket accessories, etc.. returned after a long weekend and the battery is completely dead. i called roadside assistance and they arrived about 40 minutes later with a jump box ( i must say i was impressed with the response time)... so i drive home and everything is great.. next morning get in the car, start it up no problem, XM radio is not working. if i press the audio button on the screen, the XM 'tabs' are not even there. accurlink also gets fishy and wont work. finally after about two weeks of driving the car everyday, the XM magically decides to being working again. at the same time the acuralink, tells me the airbags cannot function because the battery system is not normal. (i live about 2 hours from an acura dealer and have not had time to take the car in, though i feel like they should come pick it up, no charge) soooo.... it happened again, battery dead after not driving the car for two days.... then again..... this past weekend, stranded at the airport. any ideas on whats going on... and why my XM stops working??

Same exact thing happened with my 05 TL w/ Navi. I sat in my car with the radio and Navi on and I was programming numbers into phone book and playing with the Navi. I then tried to start the car, and I hear the dreaded clicking noise. I come back half an hour later to jump it, but I decide to try and start it, and of course it starts.
Ever since then however, everytime I start my car I am a little nervous it wont start as the car seems to struggle (engine turning too many times) before it actually starts.
I think I will be buying a new battery this weekend... How much and where can I get an Optima battery?

Acura seems to have an OEM battery problem. My '07 TL-S battery died when I let it sit for a few days without driving it shortly after I bought it. They're famous for dying at the airport while the owner is traveling.
Anyway, the dealer replaced by battery and it's been fine ever since. The new one is physically somewhat different from the original. So far, so good.
