Brake Problem

I got home from running some errands this afternoon, and smelled something burning coming from my car. After some investigation I noticed the drivers side rear brake was smoking and you could feel heat coming off it from a couple feet away. I think the brake must be stuck on. Anyone ever have this problem, or know what I should do to attempt to fix it before I bring it to a shop?

ebrake over ajusted, low pads, sticking caliper pins, or bad vsa unit.

if you didnt leave the park brake engaged, then its a serious issue

For this model car- with the several known probs they have in brake and gyro controls,
get to the dealer asap

I didn't leave the parking brake on, and the 3rd gen lets you know pretty quickly if You drive with the parking brake on. The car will be parked until the shop I use opens on Monday, I just hope it's a pretty easy/inexpensive fix.

think WARRANTY issue on the braking controller! free!!!

on the park brake- we have to toss out ALL the things that would cause brake prob, nothing personal meant by the questions!

Can it be the master cylinder? My brakes seem to be wearing out pretty quick without the the heavy foot driving. Are the pads supposed to be making contact with the rotor even when not stepping on the brake or are they supposed to retract?

Im not sure if it would be the master cylinder becasue my other 3 brakes are fine. I'll let you know what the shop says when they call me.

they shouldn't be touching the rotors when not in use.

about 1 mm is all the pads come off the rotors when not in use- just enough to clear

well the shop said that the caliper was sticking, and they ordered a new one from acura. Total it's going to cost me 300 to have fixed. Could be worse I guess

I would call acura 1-800-382-2238x5 start a file on the problem
there may be warranty involved- or a refund from acura...

05 is pretty early for caliper problems- unless your fluid looks really bad
Supposed to start changing brake fluid at year 3, then every year- forever

The brake fluid looks pretty good, the previous owner had everything done according to the Maintenance Minder at the Acura dealer. The rear calipers are really rusty though, not sure why. Maybe the climate in Cleveland where the old owner lived.

Damn! Does that mean that my master cylinder isn't good? Is there a way to take care of that problem other than replacing it? Please tell me there is cause it sounds expensive.

Single rear caliper sticking

My '05/6sp with 65K miles is doing this now (right rear). I changed out the pads about 10K miles ago and the RR is toast now. I noticed a lot of brake dust on the rear a couple weeks ago and started to investigate. From the thread, it looks like you had one caliper replaced - any problems from the other one yet? I would think that if one is getting stuck (for whatever reason) the other one would follow suit soon.

Has anyone tried a rebuild? Any 'gotchas' beyond a standard caliper rebuild?
