Big WTF Problems

Went to the dealer today for just oil change, cabin filter, and replace the wiper motor since it died few day ago. Not only it cost me more than 500 but it also they found new problem in my car.

They did a inspection and found a lot of problem in my almost shy 60k miles. Here is the list:

P/S PUMP LEAKING (RESEAL) - $270.00
P/S FLUID FLUSH - $139.95
REAR MAIN SEAL LEAKING - $1,279.00
CONTROL ARM BUSHING TORN - $634.00
FRONT AND SIDE ENGINE TORN - $695.00
A/C LINE LEAKING - $464.50

TOTAL: $3482.45

I just fixed this following year

P/S RACK AND PINION - $800.00
REPLACED FAULTY WIPER MOTOR - $386.41

TOTAL this year in repair: $ 4668.86

I am having a big dilema and what should I do?I don't know if I want to trade my car or not; since I have only 8 month left to pay off my car.

Please help a fellow aziner and thank you for reading.

i don't know where to begin...

you should not have paid them anything for what they did.

oil change and cabin filter you could have done yourself for $50. the wiper motor is a known failure and my dealer replaced mine goodwill.

the P/S stuff should be included under the recall that was issued...again, free.

the rest of that stuff I would get a second opinion on bc that sounds a little sketchy to me due to your mileage. additionally, your power train warranty is 70k so see if you can use that to your advantage.

what year is your TL?

i thought the wiper motor was a recall? i know something had to do with the wiper motor.

the other items...i'd be weary of whether they actually existed...again by mileage and YOU as the owner not noticing anything out of the ordinary (vibrations, suspension/handling issues).

OP did you notice anything "off" with your car when you took it to them?? anything unusual?

my gut tells me you may have gotten taken. i would have been WTF? and then left to get a 2nd opinion esp if you dont' really have much of a relationship with that dealer.

I forgot, I want to be clear I didn't accept any of the job that I listed. I only did the motor wiper today and the P/S rack and pinon was 2 or 3 month ago. The rest one of the list is new and I declined since I am getting second opinion from the mechanic next weekends.

About the motor wiper they did the recall to my car but they cant do the second time and I was forced to pay because I don't have choice since I don't want to drive around with out the wiper working.

i suggest you ask your dealer for goodwill assitance. if they decline, fight it.
and if you do shell out money for the repairs, providing they're faulty, remember there is over-lapping labor on a couple repairs quoted.
and finally, is that a nsx dash on your avi?

Are those repair costs in line with whats expected? They look to be about twice what I would anticipate.

I did ask for goodwill assistance, they declined. I'm still fighting hard, went to the manager but its a loosing battle. What next for me?

They did cover a lot of goodwill in the past.

This is my history;

-Cracked dashboard - goodwill
-Fuel Cap - recall
-Seat Sensor - goodwill
-Acelerator Pepal Position - warranty
-P/S suff - recall
-Starter - warranty
-Motor Wiper (first time) - recall

@eg5, yes this is the nsx dash in my avi

I took my tsx to the acura dealer in NC on May 23rd for a oil/filter change. They then told me due to the mileage the serpentine belt, brake and ps fluid should be changed. They also said the control arm bushings were starting to tear and should be changed. On June 26th I took it to the dealer in Pa. They checked over the car and told me none of the above was needed.

I know a guy who used to be a shop foreman at an Acura dealership where I live. And he told me if you ever are told that your control arm bushings are torn decline it and ask for a second opinion. Techs very frequently use this on customers for some extra cash when it's low. Its a labor extensive job and they can make money off it, best of all it doesn't show any signs of this so people just tend to believe them and go along with it.

if the car is not under any sort of warranty, go with an independent japanese specialist for a 2nd opinion and possibly repair.

The above is exactly why my car never sees the inside of the dealership except for a warranty repair.

You can do the p/s pump repair for $12 (see here) https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-pump-overhaul-pics-sm-scans-841134/

Also i would definitely get a second opinion on the other stuff (mounts and control arm bushings can be torn but i highly doubt the rear main leak at 60k)
